11.23.11 - Post-season awards for Cerritos
 After
coming in second place in the South Coast Conference and
a game away from qualifying for the State Championships,
the Cerritos College men's water polo team saw several
of its players get recognized for the play during the
season. The Falcons, who posted a 20-14 record on the
year, were led by sophomore
Isaac Ogloblin
(I.E.S. Cervantes, Spain HS), who was named
All-American and 1st Team All-Southern California for
the second year in a row, while also being recognized as
the conference's Co-Player of the Year. Sophomore
Isaiah Irvine
(Schurr HS), who also received All-American
recognition, was a 2nd Team All-Southern California pick
and was named 1st Team All-SCC. Also named 1st Team
All-SCC were freshman goalkeeper
Michael Skinas
(La Serna HS) and freshman
Rafael Romero
(Montebello HS).
Ogloblin, who led the team with 92 goals and 69 steals,
was also second on the team with 50 assists. His 92
goals on the season were the fourth most in a single
season in school history, while it gave him 174 career
goals, as he finishes his Falcon career second on the
all-time list. He trailed only Daniel Garcia, who
scored 199 goals in 2001 and 2003. Ogloblin also
concludes his career fifth in career assists (77) and
third in career steals with 103. As for Irvine, he ended
the season with 55 goals, good for third on the team,
while he added 32 assists and 41 steals, which puts him
12th on the all-time list with 75 steals. and 11th in

11.10.11 - Falcons record 10-8 playoff victory
Looking
for their first Southern California Regional Playoff win
since 2008, the Cerritos College men's water polo team
was seeded #7 heading into their first round game
against #10-seeded Ventura College at the Riverside City
College Aquatic Center on Thursday. The Falcons (20-13),
who received three goals from both sophomores
Isaac Ogloblin
(I.E.S. Cervantes, Spain HS) and
Isaiah Irvine
(Schurr HS) posted a 10-8 win to advance to the
second round. Cerritos will now face South Coast
Conference rival Long Beach City College (21-2), who are
the #2-seeded team, at 12:45 p.m. on Friday. In 2008,
the Falcons won their first round playoff game, only to
be eliminated by the Vikings, 12-8.
Cerritos jumped out to a 4-2 halftime lead, and then led
by as much as 5-2, when the Pirates (12-13) scored the
next three goals to tie the game in the third quarter.
The Falcons responded with a pair of goals for a 7-5
lead and went on to record the victory. The team also
received 12 saves from freshman goalkeeper

(La Serna HS), while four other players scored

11.06.11 - Cerritos seeded #7 for regional playoffs
From 2001-02, Cerritos
College men's water polo coach
Joe Abing
held the same position at Ventura College. In his second
year with the Pirates, he led them to the second round
of the Southern California Regional Playoffs. If he is
to lead his 2011 Falcon team to the second round of the
playoffs, he's going to have to get through his former
team, as the two square off on Thursday at noon in the
first round of the Southern California Regional
Playoffs, which will take place at Riverside College.
The Falcons (19-13), who finished in second place in the
South Coast Conference, are seeded #7 out of the 10
teams, while 10th-seeded Ventura (13-12) finished in
third place in the Western State Conference during the
regular season and finished in second place in the
conference tournament. The winner of the game will face
#2-seeded Long Beach City College at 12:45 p.m. on
Friday. The Vikings defeated Cerritos in the SCC

11.05.11 - Falcons lose in conference championship
game
For the
eighth time in his nine seasons as the Cerritos College
men's water polo coach,
Joe Abing
has led his team to the South Coast Conference
Championship game. His first title eluded him once
again, as they dropped a 14-10 decision to Long Beach
City College at Mt. San Antonio College on Saturday.
Despite the loss, the Falcons (19-13) will likely be one
of the 10 teams that qualifies for the Southern
California Regional Championships, which will take place

10.28.11 - Goals come in bunches in non-conference
win
The Cerritos College
men's water polo team finished up their regular season
with a convincing 17-7 non-conference victory over
American River College at the Falcon Aquatic Center on
Friday night. The win was the third in a row for the
Falcons, who improved to 18-12 on the season. Prior to
their current winning streak, the team had dropped four
games in a row, with two of them by a combined three
goals. They will compete in the South Coast Conference
Tournament on November 3-5 at Mt. San Antonio
College.
The Falcons never trailed against the Beavers (11-8), as
they received early support from sophomore
Isaac Ogloblin (I.E.S. Cervantes,
Spain HS), who scored all four of his goals in
the first period. The game was filled with
exclusions, with 26 called on the night. It allowed
Cerritos to score several man-advantage goals, while
their defense held up when they were short-handed...[more]
10.26.11 - Falcons snap losing skid with a pair of
wins
Looking
to end their four-game losing streak, the Cerritos
College men's water polo won a pair of games at the
Falcon Aquatic Center on Wednesday. The Falcons (17-12)
opened with a 19-2 South Coast Conference win over Los
Angeles Trade-Tech College and followed that with a
strong 14-7 non-conference win over Los Angeles Valley
College. Earlier in the season, Cerritos posted an 8-7
win over the Monarchs (14-10). The team will now play
their final regular season game at 7:00 p.m. when they
host American River College on a non-conference game on
Friday.
In the win over LA Trade-Tech (1-13, 1-4), freshman
Derek Klotzer
(Downey HS) turned in his best game of the year
with four goals, four assists and five assists, both
season-high numbers, while freshman
Derek Dodson
(Downey HS) posted four goals in the win. The
lop-sided victory allowed the Falcons to balance out
their scoring, as 10 different players scored, including
freshman
Isaiah Fairbanks (Paramount HS), who saw
his first action in the field after serving as the
team's back-up goalkeeper all season. He also recorded
three steals, while freshman
Juan Rivas
(Downey HS) contributed three goals and two
steals. Freshman
Michael Skinas
(La Serna HS) turned away 14 shots and recorded a

10.22.11 - Two close games end in defeat
After
dropping both of their games on the first day of the
Golden West Tournament, which was held at the Falcon
Aquatic Center, the Cerritos College men's water polo
team looked to turn things around in their next two
games on Saturday. However, the Falcons came up short in
a 17-15 loss to Grossmont College and then were defeated
by Riverside College, 13-12 in sudden death. The two
losses extends the team's losing streak to four games in
a row, the longest in head coach
Joe Abing's
eight-year career with the team, puts their record at
15-12 overall. The Falcons will now host a double-header
at home on Wednesday when they face Los Angeles
Trade-Tech in a South Coast Conference game at 4:15
p.m., followed by a 6:00 p.m. non-conference match

10.21.11 - Cerritos drops both games at tournament
With most of the
top-ranked schools in the state competing in the Golden
West Tournament, held at the Falcon Aquatic Center, the
Cerritos College men's water polo team faced two of them
in their first-day bracket. Squaring off against a team
full of international players, the Falcons dropped a
16-8 decision to West Valley College and then were
defeated by Cuesta College, 13-8 in their afternoon
game. As a result, Cerritos (15-10) will play the other
two teams that went 0-2 in their respective brackets in
their Saturday games. They open with Grossmont College
at 10:15 a.m. and then play again at 1:30 p.m. against
Riverside College. Earlier in the year, the Falcons were
defeated by Grossmont, 11-8 at the San Diego Mesa
Tournament and 15-5 at the Riverside Tournament, while
they defeated Riverside, 12-11 at the first Golden West

10.19.11 - Falcons pull out close win over Mt. San
Antonio
In a
battle for second place in the South Coast Conference,
the Cerritos College men's water polo team pulled out an
important 10-8 win at Mt. San Antonio College on
Wednesday. The win improves the Falcons to 15-8 overall
and 3-1 in SCC play, while the Mounties fell to 3-2 and
11-13. Long Beach City College leads the conference with
a 5-0 mark. Cerritos will now serve as one of the hosts
for the Golden West Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
They will face West Valley College at 8:35 a.m. on
Friday and then play Cuesta College at noon. How they
fare in those two games will determine their opponent

10.17.11 - College to serve as host of tournament
The Golden West Tournament is a
18-team tournament that will be held this weekend, with
one of the sites to be the Cerritos College Aquatic
Center, with the other being Golden West College. The
Falcons (14-8) will be one of the nine teams that plays
at Cerritos College and will open the round-robin
tournament with West Valley College and Cuesta College
in their bracket. The Falcons will open with West Valley
at 8:35 a.m. and then face Cuesta at 12:00 p.m. on
Friday. Each team will play the other two in their
bracket and, based on their records, will determine who
they play from the other brackets on the second day. To

10.12.11 - Cerritos records big conference win
As the
Cerritos College men's water polo team continues in
their quest for post-season competition, they continue
to win the games they know will help them get to the
playoffs. On Wednesday, the Falcons posted a solid 16-6
South Coast Conference win at Chaffey College. The
victory improves the team's record to 14-8 overall and
2-1 in the SCC with just two conference games remaining.
Cerritos will now travel to Mt. San Antonio College next
Wednesday for a 4:15 p.m. conference match...[more]
10.08.11 - Falcons win two of four at Riverside
Tournament
The
Cerritos College men's water polo team won two of their
four games at the Riverside Tournament over the weekend,
but could have easily won three of those matches. After
posting a 17-12 win over Palomar College in their first
game, the Falcons (13-8) were defeated by the host
Tigers, 9-8, in their closest match of the tournament.
The team came back the next day and dropped a 15-5
decision to Grossmont College before closing out with a
9-7 victory over Orange Coast College. Cerritos will now
travel to Chaffey College on Wednesday for a 4:15. p.m.

10.05.11 - Second double header of the season ends in
split
Earlier
in the season, the Cerritos College men's water polo
team played a double-header when they hosted Long Beach
City, followed by a game against Cal Tech. On Wednesday,
the Falcons played another double-header, but it
required them to travel between games. Cerritos opened
the day with an 18-6 South Coast Conference win at El
Camino College in a 3:00 p.m. game and then travelled to
Golden West College to completed a suspended game
against the Rustlers as part of the Golden West
Tournament from early September. The game, which started
at 7:00 p.m., was suspended when lightning chased
everyone out of the pool, while the game was completed
on Wednesday. The Rustlers, who held a 3-0 lead at the
time of the suspension, went on to record a 20-8
victory. Cerritos (11-6) will now compete in the

09.24.11 - Cerritos splits final two games of
tournament
After
picking up a pair of wins on the first day of the San
Diego Mesa Tournament, the Cerritos College men's water
polo team split their final two contests, as they posted
a 19-10 win over San Diego Miramar College and then were
defeated by Grossmont College, 11-8. The Falcons (10-5)
get the week off before they resume South Coast
Conference play on October 5 in a 4:15 p.m. game at El

09.23.11 - Falcons open tournament with two big wins
After the first day of
the San Diego Mesa Tournament, the Cerritos College
men's water polo team has already posted a pair of big
wins, as they opened with a 12-4 win over the host
Olympians and followed that with an 18-7 victory over
Southwestern College. The Falcons (9-4) will now face
San Diego Miramar College at 9:30 a.m. and
then Grossmont College at 5:20 p.m. to close out the

09.14.11 - Second game of the day results in win
Earlier in the day,
the Cerritos College men's water polo team suffered a
15-8 loss to rival Long Beach City College in their
South Coast Conference opener at the Cerritos Aquatic
Center on Wednesday. They came right back two hours
later and defeated Cal Tech, 14-3 in a non-conference
game to improve their record to 7-4 on the year. The
Falcons will now take the next nine days off until they
compete in the San Diego Mesa Tournament...[more]
09.14.11 - Cerritos loses goalkeeper and then game
It was very early in
the game when Cerritos College freshman water polo
goalkeeper

(La Serna HS) caught a finger in the eye and
was forced to leave the game. It couldn't have come at a
worse time, as the Falcons were opening South Coast
Conference play against rival Long Beach City College, a
team they dropped a 7-5 decision to four days ago at the
Golden West Tournament. The Falcons (6-4) were able to
stay close through the first half, but the Vikings (5-0)
took control in the second and came away with a 15-8
victory. Cerritos will now play their second game of the
day, as they host Cal Tech at 7:00 p.m. in a
non-conference game at the Falcon Aquatic Center.

looked to his defense to try and force Long Beach to
take some ill-advised shots. Although they fell
behind 4-1 in the second quarter, the Falcons scored

On the
first day of the Golden West Tournament, the Cerritos
College men's water polo team provided a great deal of
excitement, as they recorded a pair of one-goal
victories. It started with a 12-11 win over Riverside
College and continued with a 7-6 win over Los Angeles
Valley College. Thunder and lightning wiped out the
team's game against the host Rustlers on Saturday
morning, while the Falcons (6-3) dropped a close 7-5
decision to rival Long Beach City College to close out
the tournament. The two teams will face each other on
Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. at the Falcon Aquatic Center when
the two teams meet in their South Coast Conference

09.04.11 - Cerritos finishes East Coast Tournament
Playing
their final games of the Labor Day Open at the Naval
Academy in Annapolis, MD, the Cerritos College men's
water polo team finished by splitting their last two
games. The Falcons (4-2) easily defeated Penn State Behrend, 18-4 and finished with a 14-6 setback against Bucknell University. Cerritos will now enter the Golden West Tournament this weekend...[more]
09.03.11 - Falcons open season by winning three of
four
Playing
outside of California for the first time in the
program's history, the Cerritos College men's water polo
team has made the most of their trip to the Naval
Academy for the Labor Day Open in Annapolis, MD. The
Falcons, who posted wins over Rockford (MI) Aquatic Club
(12-11), Lindenwood (MO) University (18-6) and Notre
Dame (OH) College (14-7), suffered their only loss
against a club team comprised of alumni from various
East Coast universities, MAB, 10-6. Cerritos will close
out their trip on Sunday when they face Penn State Behrend
and Bucknell University before heading back home...[more]
11.29.10 - Seven players earn all-conference honors
The
Cerritos College men's water polo team concluded the
season with a 17-11 record and a berth in the Southern
California Regional Playoffs. They were rewarded with
seven players earning All-South Coast Conference
recognition, led by sophomore PJ Gabayeron
(Cerritos HS), who was one of three Tri-Players
of the Year. Three others earned 1st Team honors and
