Freshman
Christian
Flores (Montebello
HS) scored four times to lead the Cerritos
College men's water polo team to a 12-8 win over Mt. San
Antonio College in the third place game of the South
Coast Conference Tournament, held at Chaffey College on
Saturday. With the win, the Falcons are now 18-10 on the
year and will find out on Sunday if they made the
playoffs and, if so, where the game will be played on
Wednesday. The win over the Mounties was the third of
the season for Cerritos.
After falling behind 2-1 at the end
of the first period, the Falcons responded with five
goals in the second quarter and took a 6-4 lead into
intermission. They also came up with a big fourth
quarter after the Mounties closed to gap to 9-7 heading
into the final eight minutes.
In addition to the goals by Flores,
who is closing in on being only the second player in
school history to score over 100 goals (he now has 97),
freshmen
AJ Abrego
(El Rancho HS)
and
Jan-Michael
Pineda (Cerritos
HS) each scored three times for the Falcons.
Freshman
Jose Aguirre
(Downey HS)
accounted for the other two goals, while freshman
goalkeeper
Billy Smith
(Cypress HS)
posted 11 saves in the win.
Cerritos continued an offensive
attack against the Mounties and has 32 shots on the day. |
