The Cerritos College men's water polo
team won their fifth game in a row and improved to 2-0
in the South Coast Conference with their 19-3 road win
against Los Angeles Trade-Tech College on Wednesday. The
Falcons (5-1) used 11 goal scorers in the game and will
now look to keep their momentum going when they enter
the Merced Tournament, which will be held this Friday
and Saturday.
With such a lop-sided score, Falcon
head coach
Joe Abing
was able to get everyone some pool time and they
responded with the balanced offensive attack, which is
the trademark of the team. A trio of freshman each
scored three goals for Cerritos, while a pair of
freshmen each registered four assists.
Christian
Flores
(Montebello
HS),
the team's leading goal scorer, along with
John Chao
(Cerritos
HS)
and
Steven
Baughman
(Western
HS)
all put three in the net, while
David Correa
(Downey
HS)
and
Torrence Lee
(Cerritos
HS)
all turned in season-high numbers for helpers.
Freshman goalkeeper
Billy Smith
(Cypress
HS)
was in command of the net the entire game, and recorded
11 blocks, while also getting in on the scoring action
with an assist. At one point, Flores went into the net
and posted one block. Scoring twice for the Falcons were
sophomore
Cory Pettis
(Warren
HS)
and freshman
Jimmy
Quintana
(Montebello
HS),
with freshman
Eddie
Rodriguez
(Pioneer
HS)
adding three assists. |
