The
Cerritos College men’s water polo team improved their
record to 4-1 in the South Coast Conference after a 16-7
win at El Camino College on Wednesday afternoon. The
victory also improved the Falcons record to 18-8 on the
year, as they prepare for the South Coast Conference
Tournament, which will be played next Friday and
Saturday at Mt. San
Antonio College.
Freshman
Dan Biag
(Cerritos HS) led the team with three goals,
while 10 other players picked up at least one tally in
the victory. The win gave the coaching staff a chance to
insert players who haven’t seen a lot of action all
year, including sophomore goalkeeper
Alan Nevarez
(Downey HS/Long Beach City College), who was
inserted into the field and scored a goal. The duo of
freshman
Josh Del
Toro (Pioneer HS) and sophomore
Billy Smith
(Cypress HS) rotated between the net and the
field, but neither of them scored. They each recorded
two steals and combined for seven saves.
Scoring twice
for Cerritos were freshmen
Mark Zuniga
(Downey HS),
Louie
Espinoza (Montebello HS) and
Chris
Argueta (Cathedral HS), while sophomores
Austin
Cooper (Downey HS) and
Torrence Lee
(Cerritos HS) anchored the defense with four
steals each. As a team, the Falcons had 18 steals in the
game. |
