Freshman
Louie
Espinoza (Montebello HS) scored in
overtime to give the Cerritos College men’s water polo
team an 8-7 South Coast Conference win at Chaffey
College on Wednesday. The win improved the Falcons
record to 3-2 overall, while they are 1-0 in the SCC.
The team will now enter the Cal Lutheran Tournament over
the weekend.
Espinoza, who
led the team with three goals in the game, was just one
of the heroes in the victory. The goalkeeping duo of
sophomore
Alan Nevarez
(Downey HS/Long Beach City College) and freshman
Josh Del
Toro (Pioneer HS) turned away the
Panthers time after time over the course of the match.
The two combined for 15 saves, with several of them at
crucial times in the game.
Sophomore
Torrence Lee
(Cerritos HS) dished out three assists in the
win, while freshman
Michael
Villalobos (Whittier HS) added two goals
on the day. Sophomore
AJ Abrego
(El Rancho HS) had two assists and two steals,
while sophomores
Jimmy
Quintana (Montebello HS) and
Chris
Jimenez (Bell Gardens HS/Golden West College),
along with freshman
Ryan Tamula
(Cerritos HS) each recording two steals. |
