water polo defeat LA Trade-Tech, 18-6 Wednesday

The
Cerritos College men’s water polo team scored early and
often against Los Angeles Trade-Tech College in their
South Coast Conference home match on Wednesday
afternoon. The Falcons, ranked #7 in the state, posted
an 18-6 win over the Beavers to run their season record
to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the SCC, while LA Trade-Tech
dropped to 0-3 in SCC action. The team will come right
back on Friday to host Los Angeles Valley College (3-1)
at 2:00 p.m.
With their
starters sitting out the match against LA Trade-Tech,
the Falcons turned to freshmen
Eddie Kim
(Cerritos HS) and
Mark Zuniga
(Downey HS), who combined to score 10 goals. Kim
tallied a season-high six goals to go along with three
assists, while Zuniga added four goals. The game gave
Cerritos a chance to give some players additional
playing time, with nine different players scoring at
least one goal, which is the norm for the Falcons.
Sophomore
Matthew
Whalen (St. John Bosco HS) and freshman
Adam
Arambula (Kennedy HS) each scored twice,
while sophomore
Kevin Nguyen
(Cerritos HS) led the team with three steals.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Billy Smith
(La Habra HS) played the entire game and turned
in nine saves, while he picked up his first career
assist. |
