City
The Cerritos College men's water polo
team saw their season come to an end on Friday when they
suffered a 12-8 loss to Long Beach City College in the
first round of the Southern California Regional
Playoffs, which are being played at Golden West College.
The Falcons (23-8) were seeded #6 in the playoffs, while
the #3-seeded Vikings advance to the next round. It was
the third time this year that Long Beach City defeated

11.08.08 - Third place finish sends team to regionals
Although they lost their opening game
of the South Coast Conference Tournament, the Cerritos
College men's water polo team rebounded to win their
third place match, which propels them to the Southern
California Regional Championships. The Falcons, seeded
#2 entering the tournament, suffered a heartbreaking 8-7
loss to eventual tournament champion Mt. San Antonio
College on Friday. However, Cerritos (23-7) responded
with a 17-6 win over Chaffey College in the third place

10.28.08 - Falcons have hands full in win over Alumni
For the first time in many years, the
Cerritos College men's water polo team went up against a
group of former players in a non-conference game that
was played on Tuesday afternoon. After the close 17-13
win by the current Falcons, it explains why the program
is reluctant to schedule the game. Cerritos (22-6
overall), ranked #5 in the state, will now enter the
South Coast Conference Tournament, which will take place
November 6-8 at Pasadena City College. The Falcons will
enter the tournament as the #2-seeded team.
From the outset, the game was tight
and Cerritos had trouble shaking off the pesky former
players which was comprised of mainly players who played
for head coach
Joe Abing,
who is in his sixth season. In fact, two of the
alumni players were his assistant coaches,
goalkeeper Elliot Cowens and field
player Mike Kim, who led the alumni

10.18.08 - Cerritos splits four games at tournament
The first time the Cerritos College
competed in the Golden West Tournament earlier in the
year, they won three out of four games. But that was in
the first week of the season. In their second trip to
the tournament, the Falcons split their four games,
which puts their season record at 21-6, as the team has
now lost three of their last five games. Cerritos now
prepares to face a team of alumni players on October 28
in a 3:00 p.m. non-conference contest...[more]
10.15.08 - Loss to LBCC breaks first place tie
Looking for their
second South Coast Conference title in five years, the
Cerritos College men's water polo team came up short
against cross-town rival Long Beach City College in an
8-4 loss on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons (ranked #5
in the state) and Vikings (#3) were both 4-0 heading
into the contest and the loss not only leaves Cerritos
(19-4) in second place, it also snapped their seven-game
winning streak. The team will now compete in the Golden

10.11.08 - Falcons sweep five games in three days
Knowing they would be playing five
games over the course of three days, the Cerritos
College men's water polo team looked to utilize their
opportunities. After coming away with a close 11-10
non-conference win at Ventura College on Thursday, the
Falcons proceeded to sweep all four games at the Citrus
Tournament over the weekend. With the five wins,
Cerritos is now 19-3 overall and have won seven in a row
and 14 of their last 15 games. They resume South Coast
Conference action on Wednesday when they travel to Long

10.08.08 - Team stays undefeated in SCC action
The Cerritos College men's water polo
team remained undefeated in South Coast Conference
action with a 17-10 win at Los Angeles Trade-Tech
College on Wednesday. The Falcons, who are 4-0 in SCC
play, improved to 14-3 on the year. Not able to spend
much time enjoying the win, the team now travels to
Ventura College for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference game on
Thursday before competing in the Cuesta Tournament over

10.04.08 - Cerritos wins three of four at Citrus
Tourney
The Cerritos College men's water polo
team ran their season record to 13-3 on the year after
winning three of four games at the Citrus Tournament
over the weekend. The Falcons opened with a 19-3 win
over Santa Monica College and followed that with an 11-6
victory over Ventura College. On the second day, the
team dropped their second game of the season to Golden
West College, losing 17-8, and the rebounded for a 14-10
victory over Riverside City College. Cerritos will look
to improve to 4-0 in South Coast Conference play when
they travel to Los Angeles Trade-Tech College for a 3:00

10.02.08 - Falcons win second game in as many days
Playing their second home game in as
many days, the Cerritos College men's water polo team
picked up a 16-5 non-conference win over Merced College
on Thursday afternoon. The Falcons improved to 10-2 on
the year, as they get set to compete in the Citrus

10.01.08 - Defense shuts down Mt. SAC in second half
Unable to generate any kind of
consistent offensive attack in the first half, the
Cerritos College men's water polo team turned to their
defense to keep close to Mt. San Antonio College in
their South Coast Conference match on Wednesday
afternoon. Trailing 6-4 at halftime, the Falcons
outscored the Mounties 4-0 in the second half and pulled
out an 8-6 win. For the Falcons, ranked #4 in the state,
they improved to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in SCC ply, while
Mt. San Antonio, ranked #6, dropped to 16-5.
"Our offense in the
first half was horrible," said head coach
Joe
Abing. "We were trying to force the
ball in and I was trying to explain to them that
we need to be patient and work the ball. They
worked out their problems in the second half and

09.26.08 - Cerritos pulls away for win
The Cerritos College men's water polo
team broke open a close 12-9 game at the end of the
third quarter on Friday in a non-conference game at
Citrus College. The Falcons outscored the Owls 4-2 in
the fourth quarter and finished with a 16-11 win to run
their season record to 8-2. The team will now resume
South Coast Conference play on Wednesday when they play
at 4:15 p.m. and host Mt. San Antonio College...[more]
09.24.08 - Falcons pound Chaffey, 25-11
Scoring their most goals in over
three seasons, the Cerritos College men's water polo
team scored at will in posting a 25-11 South Coast
Conference victory at home against Chaffey College on
Wednesday. In their only meeting last year, the Falcons
scored an overtime win against the Panthers, while
Cerritos lost both meetings the year before. The win
improves the team's record to 7-2 overall, while they
are now 2-0 in SCC play. Cerritos will now travel to
Citrus College for a 6:30 p.m. non-conference game on
Friday.
The Falcons scored
early and often in their convincing win, with 11 of
the 13 players that saw action getting on the board
with at least one tally. By the end of the first
quarter, Cerritos seemed to have the game in hand,
as they led, 9-3 and upped that advantage to 16-5 by

09.20.08 - Team splits two games at Cal Lu Tourney

(Downey HS) scored two fourth quarter goals to
help the Cerritos College men's water polo team break a
6-6 tie with Chapman University, as the team went on to
post a 9-7 win in the first game of the Cal Lutheran
Tournament. The Falcons (6-2) dropped their next game, a
12-11 overtime decision against Ventura College later
that day. The team will now host Chaffey College in a
South Coast Conference match at 3:00 p.m. on

The Cerritos College men's water polo
team ran their record to 5-1 on the year after their
12-6 non-conference win at Los Angeles Valley College on
Friday. The Falcons will now enter the Cal Lutheran
Tournament for two games, with one against Chapman

09.17.08 - Falcons blow past El Camino, 19-8
In their South Coast Conference
opener, the Cerritos College men's water polo team
opened up a 10-4 lead against El Camino College late in
the second quarter and then put the game out of reach
with a 6-0 third period. The end result was a 19-8 win
in the Falcon Pool on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons
(4-1) will now travel to Los Angeles Valley College for
a 3:00 p.m. non-conference game on Friday.

while a quartet of players each scored one time. But
it was the play of freshman

stood out, as he scored a season-high six goals in
as many attempts, while he also contributed three

After splitting their first two games
of the season at the Golden West Tournament, the
Cerritos College men's water polo team won their final
two games and are now 3-1 on the year. The Falcons don't

two games at tourney
The Cerritos College men's
water polo team opened their 2008 season at the Golden
West Tournament on Friday and split their first two
games. The Falcons (1-1) were defeated by the host
Rustlers, 13-7 in the opener, but rebounded for a 13-9
win over South Coast Conference foe Mt. San Antonio
College later in the day. The team is scheduled to play
two games on Saturday (8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.), but
