Scoring their most
goals in over three seasons, the Cerritos College
men's water polo team scored at will in posting a
25-11 South Coast Conference victory at home against
Chaffey College on Wednesday. In their only meeting
last year, the Falcons scored an overtime win
against the Panthers, while Cerritos lost both
meetings the year before. The win improves the
team's record to 7-2 overall, while they are now 2-0
in SCC play. Cerritos will now travel to Citrus
College for a 6:30 p.m. non-conference game on
Friday.
The Falcons scored
early and often in their convincing win, with 11 of
the 13 players that saw action getting on the board
with at least one tally. By the end of the first
quarter, Cerritos seemed to have the game in hand,
as they led, 9-3 and upped that advantage to 16-5 by
halftime.
The duo of
sophomore Louie Espinoza (Montebello
HS) and freshman
Jesse
Paredes (Whittier HS) led the
team with five goals each, with sophomore
Mark
Zuniga (Downey HS) and
freshman
Pat Muniz
(Santa Fe HS) each chipping in with three
tallies. It was Muniz who also had a hand in four
other goals with his assist, while sophomore
Chris
Argueta (Cathedral HS) leading
the squad with five assists.
The goalkeeping
duo of sophomore
Ian
Pawlowski (La Serna HS) and
freshman
Keiran
Hattie (Sacred Heart College, New
Zealand) were excellent in goal, as they
combined for 13 saves and three steals.
