This Week's Sports Schedule

09.26.08 - CERRITOS PULLS AWAY FOR WIN
The Cerritos College men's water polo team broke open a close 12-9 game at the end of the third quarter on Friday in a non-conference game at Citrus College. The Falcons outscored the Owls 4-2 in the fourth quarter and finished with a 16-11 win to run their season record to 8-2. The team will now resume South Coast Conference play on Wednesday when they play at 4:15 p.m. and host Mt. San Antonio College.

In the win over Citrus, freshman Cory Baccus (Whittier HS) led the team with four goals, while the trio of sophomores Ryan Tamula (Cerritos HS), Dan Biag (Cerritos HS) and Louie Espinoza (Montebello HS) each scored three times each for the Falcons. Aside from their offensive prowess, Cerritos used their swarming defense to help create their offense. Led by Espinoza and sophomore Miguel Villalobos (Whittier HS), who had five steals each, the Falcons posted 21 steals, while turning the ball over just nine times.

Sophomore Chris Argueta (Cathedral HS) had a strong all-around game, scoring twice, while he assisted on three others and contributed three steals. Biag assisted on three goals, while Baccus also posted three steals in the win. The trio of goalkeepers combined for seven saves, with freshman Kieran Hattie (Sacred Heart College, New Zealand) seeing all the action in the first half. He allowed four goals and made three saves, with sophomore Ian Pawlowski (La Serna HS) registering three saves in the fourth quarter.
