The Cerritos
College men's water polo team scored the first 11
goals in their South Coast Conference match at the
Cerritos Aquatic Center on Wednesday afternoon
against Los Angeles Trade-Tech College. The lead
allowed the coaching staff to move several players
around and the end result was a 16-6 victory that
improved their season record to 8-6 overall and 3-1
in conference play. The team will now travel to
Ventura College for a 2:30 p.m. non-conference game
on Thursday.
In opening the
huge lead against the Beavers, the Falcons saw
sophomore
Ethan Klotzer (Downey HS),
along with freshmen
Jon Canizales (Whittier HS)
and
Shaun Farnell (Pacifica HS)
each score a pair of goals to open up a 6-0
advantage. It was 9-0 by the end of the first
quarter, as sophomore
Daniel Peng
(Cerritos HS) picked up a pair of goals.
By the end of the
game, nine different players scored, with freshman
Miguel Quijada (El Rancho HS)
leading the team with three goals, while sophomore
Cory Baccus (Whittier HS)
joined the quartet with a pair of goals. Sophomore
Joe Joson (St. John Bosco)
posted a season-high four assists, with Baccus
adding three.
In addition to the
balanced scoring, three different players appeared
in goal with freshman
Justin
Calderon (El Rancho HS)
playing the first half. He did not allow a goal and
made two saves before entering as a field player in
the second half, where he posted an assist and
steal.
