Led by five goals
and five steals from freshman PJ Gabayeron
(Cerritos HS), the Cerritos
College men's water polo team pulled away from El
Camino College, 14-10 in a South Coast Conference
road game on Wednesday. The win evened the team's
record at 3-3, as they continue conference play at
Chaffey College next Wednesday.
After opening a
4-2 lead after the first quarter, Cerritos saw the
Warriors take a 7-6 lead at halftime. But the
Falcons clamped down on defense and outscored El
Camino 8-3 in the second half.
In addition to
Gabayeron, Cerritos received a pair of goals from
sophomores
Cory Baccus (Whittier HS),
Pat
Muniz (Santa Fe HS) and
Daniel Peng (Cerritos HS).
Additionally, freshmen goalkeepers
Andrew
Castro (Downey HS) and
Justin
Calderon (El Rancho HS) were aggressive
in goal and each posted a pair of steals. The two
also combined to make four saves.
