After opening up a
6-2 lead after the first period, the Cerritos
College men's water polo team put the game out of
reach with multiple goals and rolled to an 18-8
South Coast Conference win at Chaffey College on
Wednesday. The Falcons (4-3 overall, 2-0 SCC) will
now travel to Mt. San Antonio College for a 4:15
p.m. conference match next Wednesday.
In the win,
freshmen
Shaun
Farnell (Pacifica HS) and
Pat McCarthy (Downey HS) each
scored four goals, as the Cerritos defense helped
generate the offense. On the day, the team posted 18
steals, which led to fast break goals, with the
Falcons controlling the ball for the majority of the
match. Freshman
Miguel Quijada (El Rancho HS)
led the team with five steals, while freshman
Miguel Torres (Montebello HS)
added four steals and two goals.
Freshmen
Justin
Calderon (El Rancho HS) and
Andrew Castro (Downey HS)
combined for seven saves. Eight other players scored
one goal for Cerritos, with freshman PJ Gabayeron
(Cerritos HS) dishing out three assists to
lead the team.
