11.29.10 - Seven players earn all-conference honors
The
Cerritos College men's water polo team concluded the
season with a 17-11 record and a berth in the Southern
California Regional Playoffs. They were rewarded with
seven players earning All-South Coast Conference
recognition, led by sophomore PJ Gabayeron
(Cerritos HS), who was one of three Tri-Players
of the Year. Three others earned 1st Team honors and

The
Cerritos College men's water polo team saw their season
come to an end on Friday after they dropped a 12-8
decision to Mt. San Antonio College in the first round
of the Southern California Regional Playoffs at Cuesta
College. The Falcons (17-11), who entered the
post-season as the #4 seeded team, were unable to defeat
the Mounties, a South Coast Conference opponent, for the

On the heels of their
second place finish in the South Coast Conference, the
Cerritos College men's water polo team (17-10) was
seeded #4 for the upcoming Southern California Regional
Playoffs, which will take place at Cuesta College this
weekend. The Falcon women's team (22-7), who finished
third in the SCC, were seeded #5 for the playoffs. Both
teams will open in Friday, with the men facing #5-seeded
Mt. San Antonio College and the women playing against

Beach
If the
Cerritos College men's water polo team is going to look
back on their 10-9 overtime loss to Long Beach City
College in the finals of the South Coast Conference
Tournament on Saturday at the Cerritos Aquatic Center,
they will definitely look to missed opportunities. The
Falcons had several man-advantage chances in the first
half of their game against the Vikings, including one
where the goalie was off for an exclusion, but came up

11.04.10 - Falcons come back to defeat Mt. San
Antonio
In their first round
game of the South Coast Conference Tournament, the
Cerritos College men's water polo team didn't start to
generate any offense until the fourth period. It was
just in time, as the Falcons trailed until 5:47 remained
in the game and then pulled out a 9-7 win over Mt. San
Antonio at the Falcon Aquatic Center on Thursday
afternoon. With the win, the #2-seeded Falcons (17-9)
have advanced to the championship game where they will
face #1-seeded Long Beach City College, who defeated
Chaffey College, 12-2. So far this season, the Vikings
have defeated Cerritos in two of their three meetings.
It will also be the third time the teams will face each
other in 12 days.
Trailing by as many as two goals (4-2) in the third period,
Cerritos started their comeback when they drew the
game even at 5-5 to start the fourth period on a
goal by sophomore PJ Gabayeron

10.29.10 - Late goal gives Cerritos 15-14 win

(Cerritos HS) broke a 14-14 tie when he scored
with 24 seconds left to propel the Cerritos College
men's water polo team to a 15-14 non-conference win over
American River College at the Falcon Aquatic Center on
Friday night. The win snapped a two-game losing streak
for the 6th-ranked Falcons (16-9), while it was the
second loss of the day for 10th-ranked American River.
Earlier in the day, the Beavers (15-8) played at Long
Beach City College and suffered a 16-9 setback. The win
over American River also avenged a 13-11 loss in the
Cuesta Tournament six weeks earlier.
Cerritos will now host the South Coast Conference Tournament
on Thursday and Saturday. The #2-seeded Falcons will
play the winner of the Mt. San Antonio-Los Angeles
Trade-Tech game that kicks off the tournament. A win
puts them in the championship game at 1:30 p.m. on
Saturday, while a loss puts them in the third place
game at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday...[more]
10.27.10 - Falcons lose to Long Beach in match for
1st place
With
the #1-seed at stake in their South Coast Conference
match on Wednesday afternoon, the Cerritos College men's
water polo team dropped a 15-8 decision to Long Beach
City. The loss drops the Falcons to 15-9 overall and
4-1, as the team will now be seeded #2 at next week's
conference tournament, which will be played at the
Falcon Aquatic Center. Prior to that match, the team
will host American River College at 7:00 p.m. on Friday

10.23.10 - Cerritos plays four games against ranked
teams
The
Cerritos College men's water polo team knew that they
would be facing four of the state's top-ranked teams at
the Golden West II Tournament over the weekend. The
Falcons, who are ranked #6 in the state, opened with
losses to #2-ranked Golden West (16-10) and #5-ranked
Diablo Valley (14-5) on the first day. They followed
that with a 12-8 win over #7-ranked Fullerton, and
concluded the tournament with a 17-10 loss to #4-ranked
Long Beach City. Cerritos (15-8 overall) will now resume
South Coast Conference play on Friday at 3:00 p.m. when
they travel to Long Beach City College. Both teams are
undefeated in conference play, so the winner will earn
the top seed for the SCC Tournament, which will be

10.20.10 - Big win allows for position changes
With a
16-4 South Coast Conference win at Los Angeles
Trade-Tech on Wednesday afternoon, the Cerritos College
men's water polo team saw it as an opportunity to give
several players a chance at playing different positions.
All three of the team's goalkeepers each had a chance to
play in the field, while three field players took turns
in goal. On the strength of the win, the Falcons are now
14-5 overall and 4-0 in SCC play, as the team will now
compete in the Golden West Tournament over the weekend.
They will face both Golden West College and Diablo
Valley College on Friday and then play two more games on

10.13.10 - Falcons post close win over Mt. SAC
By the end of the
first quarter of their South Coast Conference men's
water polo game on Wednesday at the Falcon Aquatic
Center, there were three lead changes and four ties
between Cerritos College and Mt. San Antonio College. By
the end of the first quarter, the Falcons held a 6-4
lead, but eventually broke an 11-11 tie in the fourth
quarter to post a 17-15 win by the final whistle. The
victory improved the record for Cerritos to 13-5 overall
and 3-0 in SCC play, while Mt. SAC dropped to 13-6 and
2-2. Next Wednesday, the team will travel to Los Angeles
Trade-Tech College for a 3:00 p.m. conference match...[more]
10.09.10 - Cerritos reaches finals of Citrus
Tournament
The Cerritos College men's water polo team was looking
to sweep all six games they played during the week by
the time they reached the championships of the Citrus
Tournament on Saturday. They won both single games on
Wednesday and Thursday before capturing the first three
games of the tournament to reach the finals
against Cuesta College. However, the streak came to an
end when the Cougars defeated the Falcons, 18-9 and the
team took second place. Cerritos (12-5) will now host
Mt. San Antonio at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday in a South

10.07.10 - Second straight win sparks Falcons
For the second time in
as many days, the Cerritos College men's water polo team
posted a big win at the Falcon Aquatic Center. On
Wednesday, they defeated Chaffey College, 19-7 and
came back on Thursday afternoon for an 18-7
non-conference victory over Merced College. The Falcons
(9-4) will now compete in the Long Beach City Tournament
this weekend.
Just like they did against El Camino, Cerritos jumped out to
a big lead. This time they led 7-1 after the first
quarter with five different players scoring goals.

10.06.10 - Scoring barrage puts Chaffey away
The Cerritos College
men's water polo team opened up a 5-0 lead in the first
quarter against Chaffey College in their South
Coast Conference match on Wednesday at the Cerritos
College Aquatic Center. Not allowing the Panthers to get
back in the game, the Falcons (8-4, 2-0) came away with
a 19-7 victory. The team will now host Merced College in

After the first
quarter, in which the Cerritos College and El Camino
College men's water polo team scored a combined 14
goals, it appeared as though the scoring was going to be
of epic proportions. But the Falcons continued to pull
away from the Warriors and registered a 22-6 South Coast
Conference opening win at the Falcons Aquatic Center on
Wednesday. Cerritos (7-4, 1-0) will now host Chaffey
College at 3:00 p.m. next Wednesday in another

09.24.10 - Falcons ride fast start to 15-6 win

straight goals in the first quarter to help the Cerritos
College men's water polo team jump out to a 5-1 lead
against Orange Coast College in a non-conference game
played at the Falcon Aquatic Center on Friday afternoon.
The early lead helped propel the Falcons (6-4) to a 15-6
win over the visiting Pirates. Cerritos will now open
South Coast Conference play next Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
when they host El Camino College.
The game was never in question for the Falcons, who upped
their lead to 10-2 in the third quarter. In jumping
out to such a quick lead, Cerritos took advantage of
two man-advantage goals, while sophomore goalkeeper
Justin Calderon (El Rancho HS)

09.18.10 - Last-second goal sparks in in tournament

goal with four seconds left in overtime to lead the
Cerritos College men's water polo team to a 13-12 win
over Riverside College on Friday at the Cuesta
Tournament. The Falcons (7-5), who split their four
games at the tournament, will now host their
season-opener on Friday at 2:00 p.m. against Orange
Coast College. In addition to their win over the Tigers,
Cerritos also defeated the host Cougars (10-8), while
they dropped matches against West Valley College (14-7)

Leading 16-13 with two minutes left in the fourth
quarter, the Cerritos College men's water polo team
withstood a late charge by Los Angeles Valley College
and came away with a 16-15 non-conference win on
Thursday. The victory improved the team's record to 5-3
on the year, as they prepare to compete in the Cuesta

09.11.10 - Cerritos concludes tournament with split
After
their first weekend of the season, the Cerritos College
men's water polo team has split their four games. On the
first day of the Golden West Tournament, the Falcons
(2-2) dropped a 14-9 decision to the host Rustlers,
before coming back to defeat Citrus College, 13-9. On
Saturday, they opened with a close 11-10 loss to
Riverside College, but again replied with a 13-9 win
over Los Angeles Valley College. The team will now
travel to Los Angeles Valley College for a 2:00 p.m.

season
Each
year, the Cerritos College men's water polo team does
their best to face some of the best competition in the
state to help prepare them for the post-season. This
year was no different, as the Falcons opened the Golden
West Tournament on Friday against the powerful host
Rustlers. Although they were defeated, 14-9, the team
came right back and posted a 13-9 victory over Citrus
