The
Cerritos College men's water polo team finished up
their regular season with a convincing 17-7
non-conference victory over American River College
at the Falcon Aquatic Center on Friday night. The
win was the third in a row for the Falcons, who
improved to 18-12 on the season. Prior to their
current winning streak, the team had dropped four
games in a row, with two of them by a combined three
goals. They will compete in the South Coast
Conference Tournament on November 3-5 at Mt. San
Antonio College.
The Falcons never trailed against the Beavers (11-8), as they
received early support from sophomore
Isaac Ogloblin (I.E.S. Cervantes,
Spain HS), who scored all four of his goals in
the first period. The game was filled with
exclusions, with 26 called on the night. It allowed
Cerritos to score several man-advantage goals, while
their defense held up when they were short-handed.
It was an 8-5 lead for Cerritos at halftime, and then pulled
away by outscoring American River 9-2 in the second
half. Freshman Daric
Johnson (Whittier HS) turned
in his best game of the season with six goals and a
pair of assists, while freshman
Chad
Castro (Whittier HS) added
three goals and a pair of steals. Freshman
goalkeeper
Michael Skinas (La Serna HS) posted
eight saves and added three steals in the win.
