Earlier in the day, the Cerritos College men's water
polo team suffered a 15-8 loss to rival Long Beach
City College in their South Coast Conference opener
at the Cerritos Aquatic Center on Wednesday. They
came right back two hours later and defeated Cal
Tech, 14-3 in a non-conference game to improve their
record to 7-4 on the year. The Falcons will now take
the next nine days off until they compete in the San
Diego Mesa Tournament.
With three goals in the first quarter, sophomore
Isaac Ogloblin (I.E.S. Cervantes,
Spain HS) helped Cerritos jump out to a 5-0
lead and held a 6-1 advantage at halftime. With most
of the starters still exhausted from their game
against the Vikings, the entire squad got a chance
to get some playing time.
Freshmen
Derek Klotzer (Downey HS),
Derek Dodson (Downey HS) and
sophomore
Mario
Ibarra (El Rancho HS) each
scored a pair of second half goals, with freshman
goalkeeper
Isaiah
Fairbanks (Paramount HS)
making his first start of the season and posted 10
saves in the win. Sophomore
Miguel
Torres (Montebello HS) led the
team with three assists and posted a pair of steals,
as did Ibarra and sophomore
Leo Cebrowski (California HS).
