After picking up a pair of wins on the first day of the San Diego Mesa Tournament, the Cerritos College men's water polo team split their final two contests, as they posted a 19-10 win over San Diego Miramar College and then were defeated by Grossmont College, 11-8. The Falcons (10-5) get the week off before they resume South Coast Conference play on October 5 in a 4:15 p.m. game at El Camino College.
Freshman Joey Gonzales (El Rancho HS) had a breakout performance against Miramar, as he was perfect from the field and scored nine goals to lead the Falcons in their big win. His performance was complimented by freshman Derek Dodson (Downey HS), who added two goals and a team-high four assists, with freshman Derek Klotzer (Downey HS) contributing two goals and three assists. Freshman Juan Rivas (Downey HS) also dished out three assists, while sophomore Miguel Torres (Montebello HS) registered three steals. Freshman goalie Isaiah Fairbanks (Paramount HS) made eight saves and posted a pair of steals in the win.
In the loss to the Griffins, sophomore Isaiah Irvine (Schurr HS) scored three times to lead the way, with sophomore Isaac Ogloblin (I.E.S. Cervantes, Spain HS) and freshman Ralph Romero (Montebello HS) each scoring twice. Sophomore Leo Cebrowski (California HS) posted a pair of assists and steals, while freshman goalie Michael Skinas (La Serna HS) made four saves.
