Thank you for your interest in Cerritos College water
polo. Within the last five seasons, the Cerritos College
Falcons have become one of the preeminent programs in
the state of California. The Falcon water polo team is
considered an early-season contender for the South Coast
Conference championship, as well as a threat to play for
the state championship.
In years
past, the Cerritos College water polo program was year
in and year out, one of the most feared in the state.
But after a time where they didn’t compete for the
championships, they have returned to the elite. Head
coach Joe Abing just completed his fifth season as the Falcon head coach
and has led them to the Southern California Regional
Playoffs every season. Additionally, he has also led
them to the State Championships in three of those
season. He guided them to their first
conference championship in over 20 years during the 2004
season, came in second in the Southern
California Championships and advanced to the state
championships. Not only was Coach Abing named the SCC
Coach of the Year, he was also selected as the Southern
California Coach of the Year by his peers.
The
college has an enrollment of 23,000 students and is
located in Norwalk, CA, just minutes from both downtown
Los Angeles to the northwest and Orange County to the
southeast. There is plenty of local housing in the area,
while the college also offers a housing board, which
offers rooms for rent at affordable prices in the
immediate area.

Why Cerritos
College?
- School - Cerritos is
an excellent school with the top instructors. Cerritos
can meet all of your goals for classes. It is a great
place for you to transfer from. We have two counselors
who work specifically with our athletes. Most
importantly is priority registration. You get 1st
choice on all classes. This is very important, and
many colleges may not have this bonus. We have a great
campus, with a lot of brand new buildings, technology
and Cerritos is a fun place to be. It is right next to
the 605, 105, and 91 freeways, so it is easy to get to
and there is plenty of parking.
-
Polo
- We have the best program for anyone who wants to
compete for a championship. We have a number of
talented athletes here. Practices will be competitive
and fun. We train hard and love polo. We plan on
winning a lot this season and want you to be part of
that. If you have the goal to play at a higher level
after community college, we want to help you have that
option. We know we can help you accomplish whatever
your goals might be.
- Travel
- We travel in Charter buses. There is no need to
cram in crowded vans because we drive in style. There
is plenty of room to sleep, study, watch movies on one
of the many TV’s and there is even a bathroom on
board.
-
Coaching - Coach Abing
has been coaching polo a long time. He has coached
numerous All-Americans and has a great deal of
experience. In 2004, he was voted Coach of the Year
for the South Coast Conference and was also voted
Southern California Coach of the Year the same season.
Abing has led his teams to the playoffs every year and
they have reached the State Championships in three
of those season. Glen Myer is a graduate of Cerritos College and a long
time assistant coach. Playing for a coach that
motivates you can make all the difference. Cerritos
players love to play. We know you would have a great
experience playing here and we would be thrilled to
have you.
- Pools
- We have two pools. One of our pools is mostly
shallow for lap swimming and instruction. Our all-deep
pool is a very wide 8-lane pool, ideal for swim meets
and water polo games. We are currently making plans
for building a new aquatics facility. Construction is set
to begin January, 2008.
- Making your own path
- Where do you want to be in three years? Do you want
to eventually go on to a university and graduate? We
have a variety of options of classes and programs to
take. We can help you do that. Let us help you
achieve your dreams.
