Looking to close out their regular season with a win, the Cerritos College softball team saw a 5-0 South Coast Conference lead against Pasadena City College slip away and the team fell, 7-6. Aware that their fate of making the playoffs was resting on their performance in their last two games, the Cerritos College softball team was on the verge of missing the playoffs for the first time since 2002. On Tuesday, the Falcons had the difficult task of facing the state’s fourth-seeded and South Coast Conference leading Mt. San Antonio College. Cerritos, locked into fourth place in the conference, suffered a 9-3 loss, which dropped their season mark to 19-18, while they are 6-8 in the conference. 04.20.06 - Falcons Snap Losing Skid With 6-3 Win Over East LA
The Cerritos College softball team opened up a 4-0 lead over East Los Angeles College in their South Coast Conference game at Nancy Kelly Field on Thursday afternoon and then held on for a 6-3 win over the Huskies to snap a two-game losing streak. With the win, the Falcons are now 19-17 overall and 6-7 in the SCC, while the Huskies dropped to 7-35-1 overall and 1-13 in the conference. The team now hosts Mt. For the second day in a row, the Cerritos College softball team faced one of the hottest pitchers in the South Coast Conference and the end result was the same. On Tuesday, the Falcons dropped a 6-1 decision to Long Beach City, while the team fell to top-ranked Mt. San Antonio College on Wednesday, 8-0 in a game that was halted after five innings. With the loss, Cerritos slips to 18-17 overall and 5-7 in the conference, while the Mounties improved to 39-5-1 on the season and 11-1 in the SCC. Looking for a chance to get back into contention for a post-season bid, the Cerritos College softball team saw their chances get even slimmer after a 6-1 South Coast Conference loss to cross-town rival Long Beach City College at Nancy Kelly Field on Tuesday afternoon. The Cerritos College softball team overcame a 1-0 deficit against cross-town rival Long Beach City College on Thursday to record a 3-1 South Coast Conference win. The Falcons scored a single run in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth inning to improve their season record to 15-10 and are now 3-3 in the SCC, while the Vikings dropped to 21-6 overall and 6-2 in the conference. Sophomore catcher Melissa Robledo (St. Joseph HS) went 3-for-3 with three RBI, while sophomore second baseman Joanna Navarro (South Gate HS) went 2-for-3 with three RBI to help lead the Cerritos College softball team to a 9-0 South Coast Conference victory on Thursday at Nancy Kelly Field. A late rally by the Cerritos College softball team was not enough to catch Palomar College, who posted a 10-7 non-conference win at Nancy Kelly Field on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, the Falcons dropped to 8-5 on the season, while the Comets are 5-2. On the first day of the Green and Gold Tournament at Bill Barber Park in Irvine, the Cerritos College softball team recorded consecutive wins over San Joaquin Delta College (6-2) and Saddleback College (4-2). But, on the second day, the Falcon bats went silent and they were shut out by both Bakersfield College (2-0) and Golden West College (5-0) to put their season record at 8-4. The Cerritos College softball team saw Fullerton College open up a 3-0 lead through the first four innings of their non-conference game at Fullerton on Wednesday. Although the Falcons put two runs on the board in the fifth inning, it wasn’t enough and Cerritos saw their five-game winning streak come to an end, as their season record is now 5-2. Just six days earlier, the Falcons defeated the Hornets, 2-1 at home. Sophomore catcher Melissa Robledo (St. Joseph HS) doubled home sophomore center fielder Mayra Oliden (Lincoln HS) in the bottom of the first inning, in which proved to be the game’s only run, as the Cerritos College softball team recorded a 1-0 non-conference win over Riverside Community College on Tuesday afternoon at Nancy Kelly Field. The win was the fifth in a row for the Falcons, who are now 5-1 on the season, while the Tigers dropped to 3-6. 02.06.06 - Offense And Pitching Leads Falcons To Two Victories
The Cerritos College softball team played two non-conference games on Friday and it appeared as though they used all of their offense in the first game. The Falcons posted a 20-6 road win in five innings over Taft College and followed that up by scoring just two runs against Bakersfield College in a 12-inning game.
