The Cerritos College
softball team saw Fullerton College open up a 3-0
lead through the first four innings of their
non-conference game at Fullerton on Wednesday.
Although the Falcons put two runs on the board in
the fifth inning, it wasn’t enough and Cerritos saw
their five-game winning streak come to an end, as
their season record is now 5-2. Just six days
earlier, the Falcons defeated the Hornets, 2-1 at
home. The team comes right back for their third game
in three days, as they host College of the Canyons
on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.
In the top of the fifth
inning, freshman third baseman
Heather
Leonhard (Lakewood HS) drew a walk
and moved to second base after sophomore catcher
Melissa
Robledo (St. Joseph HS) singled.
Sophomore pitcher Alex Castillo (St.
Joseph HS) hit into a fielder’s choice, with
Leonhard getting cut down at third base for the
second out. Sophomore first baseman
Hilda
Valencia (Lincoln HS/East Los Angeles
College) and freshman designated player
Jackie
Jaime (St. Paul HS) each followed
with RBI singles to cut their deficit to 3-2.
Freshman
Leilani
Agatep (Artesia HS) kept the inning
alive with a single, but Valencia was thrown out at
the plate to end the inning.
Cerritos did get runners
to second base in the last two innings, but were
unable to tie the game. As for the Hornets, they
scored single runs in the first, second and fourth
innings, with the second run coming as the result of
an error.
On the day, Agatep went
3-for-3 at the plate, while Castillo, who took the
loss on the mound, slapped out two hits. |
