05.20.07 - Falcons run out of steam in state championship game
With their backs against the wall all weekend, the Cerritos College softball team came within one game of pulling off one of the most improbable feats anyone has every seen in California Community College softball history. Needing to win five straight games at the California Community Colleges Commission on Athletics Softball Championships at Big League Dreams Park in Chino Hills after losing to Cypress College on Friday night, the Falcons won twice on Saturday and came back on Sunday to extend #1-ranked Mt. San Antonio College to a winner-take-all game before falling, 4-0. Cerritos opened Sunday with an exciting 3-2 win over Cypress, which eliminated the Chargers and sent the Falcons to the championship round, where they had to defeat Mt. SAC twice to win the state championship. After dismantling the Mounties, 9-1 in the first game, Cerritos ran out of steam in the second game, as they dropped a 4-0 decision. The team ended the season with a 39-11-1 record, which sets a new school record for wins in a season. It was also the best finish for any all-freshman team in the history of California Community College softball. The appearance in the state championships was also the second for the school, and first since they won the title in 1978...[more]
 

05.19.07 - Two wins by the Falcons send them to championship Sunday
The Cerritos College softball team, with their backs against the wall, delivered twice on Saturday afternoon and have assured themselves no worse than a third place finish at the California Community Colleges Commission on Athletics State Championships, which are being held at Big League Dreams Park in Chino Hills. The Falcons (37-10-1) opened the day by eliminating College of the Siskiyous, 12-1 and came right back to eliminate Sacramento City College, 8-5. As a result, Cerritos will face Cypress College at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. If the Falcons defeat the Chargers, they will then have to beat South Coast Conference rival Mt. 05.18.07 - Loss to Cypress puts Falcons in must-win situations
After suffering a 7-0 loss at the hands of Cypress College (51-4) in their second game of the day at the California Community Colleges Commission on Athletics State Softball Championships, the Cerritos College softball team must now win five straight games if they are to capture their second state title in school history. A loss would end the season for Cerritos in the double-elimination tournament. The long road starts on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., as the Falcons (34-10-1) will face the winner of the College of the Siskiyous-San Jose City College game. The seven-run loss tied for the worst loss on the season. In the tournament, Cerritos is the #4-seeded team from the south, while Cypress is the #2-seeded team. The Cerritos College softball team won their first state tournament game since 1978 when they won the championship, as they defeated Sacramento City College, 2-0, in the opening round of the California Community Colleges Commission on Athletes State Softball Championships, which is being held at Big League Dreams Park in Chino Hills. With the win, the Falcons (35-9-1), the #4-seeded team from the south, will now played the south's #2-seed, Cypress College, at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. 05.14.07 - Softball opens state championships against Sacramento City
The Cerritos College softball team will open their quest for the state championship on Friday afternoon, as they kick off the eight-team double-elimination tournament by facing Sacramento City College. The state championships are being held at Big League Dreams Park in Chino Hills and it will run from Friday through Sunday. The Falcons (34-9-1), who swept all four of their regional playoff games, are the #4-seeded team from Southern California and will face the North's top seed, the Panthers (47-6), at noon on Friday. 05.13.07 - Falcons advance to state championships after 7-2 win
After avoiding pitching to Cerritos College softball freshman Jessica Navarro (South Gate HS) in their Southern California Regional Softball Playoff game on Saturday, Riverside Community College pitcher Brianna Olivas took her chances in the first inning on Sunday at Nancy Kelly Field. With a runner on first base in the bottom of the first inning, Navarro blasted a 0-1 pitch over the left field wall for an early 2-0 Falcon lead. Freshman second baseman Vanezza Martin Del Campo (St. Joseph HS) added a grand slam in the third inning, as Cerritos earned a trip to the state championship after their 7-2 win over the Tigers (35-18). The Falcons (34-9-1), the #4-seeded team in the playoffs, swept Riverside in two games and out-scored them, 15-4, while the team has outscored their opponents, 34-5 in their four post-season games. The team will now play next Friday through Sunday at Big League Dreams Park in Chino Hills for a shot at their second state championship in school history. 05.12.07 - Cerritos pounds out 8-2 win over Riverside
The Cerritos College softball team moved one step closer to advancing to the state championships after an 8-2 win on Saturday afternoon in the first game of a best two-out-of-three series against Riverside College. The Falcons (33-9-1), the #4-seeded team in Southern California, needs just one more win over the #6-seeded Tigers (35-17) to move on to next weekend. The second game of the series will be played on Sunday at noon, with a tie-breaker to be played at 2:00 p.m. if necessary. 05.09.07 - Seven softball players named All-Conference
After finishing in second place in the South Coast Conference and earning a #4-seed for the Southern California Regional Playoffs, seven members of the Cerritos College softball team were honored by being named 1st Team All-Conference. In addition to the players, which included freshman Jessica Navarro (South Gate HS) being named Pitcher of the Year, Falcon head coach Kodee Murray was named as to Co-Coach of the Year. 05.06.07 - Cerritos advances to Super Regional with win
The powerful bats continued to come through for the Cerritos College softball team on the second day of the Southern California Regional Playoffs. The Falcons (32-9-1), winners over Grossmont College (24-9), 9-0 in six innings on Saturday, needed only five innings on Sunday to post a 10-1 win. The series victory advances the #4-seeded Cerritos team into the Super Regional next weekend against Riverside Community College, who needed three games to defeat San Diego City College. The 6th-seeded Tigers (35-16) and the Falcons played three times this season, with Riverside winning twice. 05.05.07 - Falcons power their way to a playoff win
The Cerritos College softball team hit four home runs in their first game of the Southern California Regional Softball Playoffs on Saturday afternoon, which led them to a 9-0 win over Grossmont College that was halted in the sixth inning due to the mercy rule. The Falcons (31-9-1), seeded #4 in the playoffs, will now host the #13-seeded Griffins (24-8) on Sunday at noon in their second game of a best two-out-of-three series. 05.03.07 - Former softball player earns all-conference honors
Former Cerritos College softball player Nicole Deel concluded her collegiate playing career by being named 2nd Team All-Lone Star Conference as a utility player this season. As a senior at Abilene Christina University, Deel batted .341 on the year with five home runs and 24 RBI on the season, as she started 40 of the Wildcat's 45 games, with the team posting a 24-21 record. In her junior year, Deel posted one of the top offensive seasons in Adeline Christian history, hitting .339 with 13 home runs and 55 RBI. She earned 1st Team All-Conference honors that year and was a 2nd Team NFCA All-Region selection. In that junior season, Deel's 13 home runs led the conference and were the second most in school history, while her 55 RBI were also the second most in the school's history...[more]
 

04.28.07 - Falcons open playoffs at home on Saturday
The seedings for the Southern California Regional Playoffs were announced and Cerritos College was seeded #4 and will host their first round series. The first round, which is a best two-out-of-three series, will be played at Nancy Kelly Field, starting on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The Falcons, who came in second place in the South Coast Conference, enter the post-season with a 30-9-1 record and will be facing 13-seeded Grossmont College (24-6-1), who came in a three-way tie for first place in the Pacific Coast Conference. The second game will be played on Sunday at noon, with a third game, if needed, to be played at 2:00 p.m. The winners of the first round advance to the Super Regional, which will be played the following weekend and will also be a best two-out-of-three series. 04.24.07 - Cerritos wins and now waits for post-season
The Cerritos College softball team finished off their regular season on Tuesday with a 5-1 South Coast Conference win at East Los Angeles College. The Falcons (30-9-1 overall), who finished in second place in the SCC with a 12-3 mark, will now wait until the end of the week to find out where they will be seeded in the Southern California Regional Playoffs, which start May 5-6. The Cerritos College softball team continued their hot hitting, as they produced 11 hits in posting a 6-1 South Coast Conference win against East Los Angeles at Nancy Kelly Field on Monday afternoon. With the win, the Falcons, ranked #6 in Southern California and #11 in the state, improve to 29-9-1 overall and are locked in at second place in the SCC at 11-3, while the Huskies fall to 11-30 overall and 3-11. 04.19.07 - Cerritos posts another sweep of Long Beach City
For the third time in the last four years, the Cerritos College softball team swept all three South Coast Conference games it played against cross-town rival Long Beach City College. The Falcons improved their season record to 28-9-1 on the year and 10-3 in the SCC with a 6-1 victory against the Vikings on Thursday afternoon. After their loss, LBCC dropped to 22-18 on the year and 8-6 in conference play. 04.17.07 - Falcons score in the seventh inning to win
Freshman infielder Stephanie Lomeli (Montebello HS) singled home freshman catcher Nadine Garcia (Mayfair HS) from second base in the bottom of the seventh to propel the Cerritos College softball team to a 7-6 South Coast Conference win over El Camino College at Nancy Kelly Field on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Falcons, ranked #4 in Southern California and #8 in the state, hold on to second place in the conference with a 9-3 mark, while they are now 27-9-1 overall. The Warriors dropped to 11-20 overall and 4-8 in the SCC. 04.12.07 - Windy win over Pasadena City is a passing affair
One of the toughest weather elements to deal with is wind and the Cerritos College softball did their best to use it to their advantage. The Falcons were the beneficiary of a couple of wind-blown hits and turned that into an 8-0 win in five innings against Pasadena City College in a South Coast Conference game played at Nancy Kelly Field on Thursday. With the victory, Cerritos is now 26-9-1 on the year and 8-3 in conference action, while the Lancers fell to 5-26 and 2-10. 04.10.07 - Falcons beat top-ranked Mt. San Antonio, 13-5
The Cerritos College softball team put together one of their most impressive performances in quite some time on Tuesday, as they defeated #1-ranked Mt. San Antonio College, 13-5 in a South Coast Conference game. The win by the Falcons, ranked #5 in Southern California, improved their record to 25-9-1 overall and 7-2 in the conference, while the Mounties are now 34-4 on the year and 9-1 in the SCC. 04.07.07 - Team splits two games at Cuesta College
The Cerritos College softball team scored three runs in the top of the first inning on a three-run home run from freshman second baseman Vanezza Martin Del Campo (St. Joseph HS) and went on to defeat Cuesta College, 4-1 on Saturday in the second of two games that day. Earlier in the day, the Falcons saw a 2-0 lead against Riverside slip away when they hot a three-run home run in the top of the fifth inning and posted a 4-2 win against Cerritos. With the split of the two games, the Falcons are now 25-9-1 on the season and will resume South Coast Conference play on Tuesday when they host first place Mt. 04.03.07 - Cerritos shuts out Long Beach City for second time
For the second time this season, the Cerritos College softball team posted a shutout win against cross-town rival Long Beach City College in a South Coast Conference game. The Falcons, who won, 1-0 back on March 15, registered a 2-0 win at home against the Vikings Tuesday afternoon. The victory improved Cerritos to 23-8-1 on the season and are now 6-3 in SCC play, while LBCC slipped to 16-16 overall and 4-4 in conference action. 04.02.07 - Team resumes conference play after tournament success
The Cerritos College softball team combined power and finesse in winning three of their four games at the Ventura Tournament over the weekend. The Falcons opened the tournament with a thrilling 2-0 win over Cypress College and then followed that with a 13-0, 5-inning win against Allan Hancock College. The Cerritos College softball team jumped out to an early 9-1 lead in the South Coast Conference game at El Camino College on Thursday afternoon and finished it in five innings with an 11-2 victory. The Cerritos College softball team needed only 60 minutes to record their 8-0 win in five innings over Fullerton College (17-11-1) at the Tri-County Tournament at Nancy Kelly Field on Sunday afternoon. Freshman designated hitter Charlee Cox (Warren HS) singled home freshman pitcher Jessica Navarro (South Gate HS) with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning for the game's only run, as the Cerritos College softball team posted a 1-0 win over Santa Ana College at Nancy Kelly Field on Sunday morning. Cerritos College freshman pitcher Jessica Navarro (South Gate HS) seems to have a knack for being in the right place at the right time. On Friday afternoon in the Tri-County Tournament, held at Nancy Kelly Field at Cerritos, Navarro slapped a 2-1 pitch into right-center field to drive home freshman shortstop Jenel Guadagno (Warren HS) with the winning run in the bottom of the eight inning. Additionally, Navarro improved her pitching record to 11-4 with the victory. The win by the Falcons improved their season record to 14-7-1, while the Dons dropped to 16-13. The Cerritos College softball team was within seven outs of upsetting Mt. San Antonio College, the #2-rated team in Southern California Thursday afternoon at Nancy Kelly Field. But, the Mounties picked up single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to pull out a 3-1 South Coast Conference victory over the Falcons. The Cerritos College softball team didn't let an eight-day break in action hurt their timing at the plate. The Cerritos College softball team broke a tight 1-0 non-conference game against Santa Ana College on Tuesday afternoon at Nancy Kelly Field by scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to record a 5-0 victory. The Cerritos College softball team continued their unbeaten streak, as they collected victories over Golden West College (2-0) and San Diego Mesa (7-3) on Friday afternoon at Golden West College, The two wins improves the Falcons to 7-3-1 on the year after opening the year 0-3. 02.15.07 - Teams play to 4-4 tie after 10 innings
After falling behind 4-2 to Antelope Valley College in a non-conference softball game at Nancy Kelly Field on Thursday afternoon, the Cerritos College softball team fought back for two runs to pull even with the Marauders (12-0-1), 4-4. After 10 innings of play, the game was called due to darkness and it will be decided at a later date of the game will be completed. 02.10.07 - Cerritos runs winning streak to five games
After starting the season 0-3, the Cerritos College softball team appears to have found what they were missing, as they have now won their past five games. On Saturday, the Falcons defeated Chaffey College, 11-8 and then exacted some revenge in a 9-0 five-inning victory over Ventura College at the Green & Gold Tournament. 02.08.07 - Falcons hold on for 7-6 victory
Freshman Jessica Navarro (South Gate HS) had her hands full when the Cerritos College softball team hosted Los Angeles Valley on Thursday afternoon in a non-conference game. After starting the game at shortstop, Navarro came on to pitch innings four through six before moving back to shortstop for the seventh inning with the Falcons leading, 7-2. After the Monarchs picked up a run against freshman pitcher Ashley Lininger (Norwalk HS) and had a runner on first base with one out, Navarro came back in to pitch to record the final two outs. But it didn't come without some drama. After a ground ball out and a walk, LA Valley's Nicole Valentine smashed a three-run home run to make the score, 7-6. For the second time in as many days, the Cerritos College softball team put together a complete performance, which resulted in a win. On Tuesday, the Falcons pounded out 14 hits in their 8-0 non-conference win at Santa Barbara City College to move their record to 2-3 on the season. 02.05.07 - Jessica Navarro is hitting and pitching star in win
Freshman Jessica Navarro (South Gate HS)  went 2-for-4 at the plate, including a two-run home run and pitched the final four innings to earn the win in a 5-2 non-conference victory at Riverside College (3-2) on Monday. The win was the first of the season for the Falcons (1-3), who have yet to allow an earned run this year. 01.31.07 - Error leads to only run in loss
In the three games they have played this season, the Cerritos College softball team has not allowed an earned run. However, errors have led to all of their opponents runs, including the only run in a 1-0 non-conference game at Nancy Kelly Field against Ventura College on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, the Falcons are now 0-3 on the season and will look for their first win on Thursday, when they travel to Moorpark College for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference game...[more]


01.27.07 - Team opens season with consecutive losses
In a weird twist in their season opener, the Cerritos College softball team missed out on an opportunity to tie, and possibly win their game against Fullerton College on Saturday afternoon. Trailing Fullerton, 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, it appeared as though freshman right fielder Stephanie Lomeli (Montebello HS) had just doubled to give the Falcons runners at second and third base with two outs. But the umpires ruled that Cerritos head coach Kodee Murray had not re-entered Lomeli into the game after she was taken out on defense in the sixth inning.
