The
Cerritos
College
softball
team
needed
only
60
minutes
to
record
their
8-0
win
in
five
innings
over
Fullerton
College
(17-11-1)
at
the
Tri-County
Tournament
at
Nancy
Kelly
Field
on
Sunday
afternoon.
The
Falcons
(17-7-1)
took
advantage
of
four
Hornet
errors
to
account
for
their
first
four
runs
and
then
had
a
four-run
fourth
inning
to
end
the
game.
Cerritos
will
now
compete
in
the
Ventura
Tournament
next
weekend.
In
the
bottom
of
the
first
inning,
freshman
catcher
Nadine
Garcia
(Mayfair
HS)
reached
on a
fielding
error
by
Fullerton
shortstop
Jessica
Barr
before
freshman
pitcher
Jessica
Navarro
(South
Gate
HS)
drilled
a
triple
into
left-center
field
to
score
the
first
run.
On
the
play,
Fullerton
center
fielder
Amanda
Nemeth
tried
to
get
Navarro
sliding
into
third
base,
but
her
throw
went
into
the
dugout,
which
allowed
Navarro
to
score.
More
defensive
miscues
hurt
the
Hornets
in
the
third
inning,
as
Garcia
and
Navarro
had
back-to-back
singles
to
lead
off
the
inning.
Freshman
outfielder
Stephanie
Lomeli
(Montebello
HS)
then
hit
a
ground
ball
to
second
baseman
Kelly
Lopez,
whose
throw
to
first
was
high
and
over
the
head
of
first
baseman
Brenda
Juardo,
which
allowed
Garcia
to
score.
The
Hornets
then
had
Navarro
in a
rundown
between
second
and
third
base,
but
Nemeth,
who
came
in
to
cover
second
base
on
the
play,
threw
the
ball
away,
which
allowed
Navarro
to
score
with
the
second
run
of
the
inning.
The
Falcon
bats
took
care
of
the
final
four
runs
in
the
bottom
of
the
fourth
inning,
as
freshman
outfielder
Cecily
Garcia
(St.
Joseph
HS)
and
freshman
shortstop
Jenel
Guadagno
(Warren
HS)
each
singled.
Garcia
was
safe
on a
fielder's
choice
to
load
the
bases
before
Lomeli
singled
home
the
first
run.
Freshman
second
baseman
Vanezza
Martin
Del
Campo
(St.
Joseph
HS)
then
cleared
the
bases
with
a
double,
giving
Cerritos
an
8-0
lead.
Navarro won her second game of the day, as she pitched five
innings
and
gave
up
just
two
hits.
The
Hornets
did
get
a
runners
on
second
and
third
in
the
top
of
the
first
inning
with
one
out,
but
she
retired
the
next
two
batters
to
escape
any
harm.
She
set
down
the
final
nine
batters
to
end
the
game
to
improve
her
season
record
to
13-4.
