Freshman
pitcher/infielder
Jessica
Navarro
(South
Gate
HS)
went
4-for-4
with
four
RBI
and
pitched
4
1/3
innings
of
one-hit
ball
to
lead
the
Cerritos
College
softball
team
to a
6-3
South
Coast
Conference
win
at
Pasadena
City
College
on
Wednesday
afternoon.
With
the
victory,
the
Falcons
are
now
18-7-1
overall
and
are
tied
for
second
place
in
the
SCC
with
Long
Beach
City
College
at
4-3,
while
the
Lancers
dropped
to
4-21
overall
and
1-6
in
conference
play.
The
team
will
now
travel
to
El
Camino
College
for
a
3:00
p.m.
game
on
Thursday.
The
Falcons
opened
a
4-0
lead
against
the
Lancers,
thanks
in
part
to a
two-run
home
run
by
Navarro
in
the
top
of
the
third
inning.
In
the
second
inning,
freshman
Katie
Colln
(Mayfair
HS)
reached
base
on a
fielder's
choice,
was
then
sacrificed
to
second
base
by
freshman
outfielder
Cecily
Garcia
(St.
Joseph
HS)
and
came
home
on a
single
by
freshman
outfielder
Amber
Cardona
(Schurr
HS).
After
freshman
catcher
Nadine
Garcia
(Mayfair
HS)
led
off
the
top
of
the
third
inning
with
a
single,
Navarro
blasted
her
sixth
home
run
of
the
season.
Freshman
first
baseman
Stephanie
Lomeli
(Montebello
HS)
followed
with
a
single
and
eventually
came
home
on a
base
hit
by
freshman
designated
hitter
Charlee
Cox
(Warren
HS).
Freshman
starting
pitcher
Korrin
Soldan
(Katella
HS)
got
into
trouble
in
the
bottom
of
the
third
inning,
as
she
surrendered
an
RBI
double
to
Stephanie
Hernandez
and
an
RBI
triple
to
Kimberly
Aviles.
That
signaled
the
call
for
Navarro
to
come
into
the
circle,
and
after
allowing
an
RBI
single
to
Heather
Verhagen
to
the
first
batter
she
faced,
Navarro
then
set
down
13
of
the
next
14
batters
to
earn
her
14th
win
of
the
year.
Cerritos
added
insurance
runs
in
the
fourth
and
sixth
innings,
thanks
to a
pair
of
RBI
doubles
from
Navarro,
who
drove
in
Garcia
both
times
after
she
doubled.
On
the
day,
Navarro
had
four
hits
and
four
RBI
to
run
her
season
batting
average
to
.530,
while
Garcia
went
3-for-4
with
three
runs
scored
and
is
batting
.410
on
the
year.
Cox
was
3-for-4
and
drove
in a
run,
with
freshman
shortstop
Jenel
Guadagno
(Warren
HS)
going
2-for-4.
