The Cerritos College softball team slugged a
season-high 24 hits and capped off their
South Coast Conference game against East Los
Angeles College on Thursday by scoring 11
runs in the seventh inning in their 18-3
victory. The win allowed the Falcons (31-4
overall, 11-2 SCC) to hold on to their
one-game lead in the SCC over both Long
Beach City College and Mt. San Antonio
College, as the team will now play a pair of
non-conference games on Saturday. The team
will travel to Citrus College and face the
Owls at 11:00 a.m., followed by a 1:00 p.m.
game against Chaffey College.
Four
runs crossed the plate for Cerritos in the
top of the first inning against the Huskies,
as sophomore shortstop
Jenel Guadagno (Warren HS)
and sophomore third baseman
Jessica Navarro (South Gate HS)
each collected one-out base hits. Freshman
outfielder
Jennifer Salas (California HS)
doubled home Guadagno before sophomore
catcher
Nadine Garcia (Mayfair HS)
singled home Navarro and took second base on
the throw to the plate. After a ground out,
sophomore first baseman
Stephanie Lomeli (Montebello HS)
drove in a run with a single before Garcia
stole home for the fourth run.
Sophomore pitcher
Korrin Soldan (Katella HS)
ran her record to 13-0 on the season,
limiting East LA to five hits, with one of
the three runs being unearned. All three of
the runs Soldan allowed were on base hits by
Angela Kratz.
Before the day was over, Navarro would
have four hits and five RBI, while sophomore
outfielder
Capree Williams (Paramount
HS/Bethune Cookman University) finished
with three hits, three runs scored and four
stolen bases. Guadagno (3-for-5), Salas
(2-for-5, 2 runs) and Garcia (2-for-4) all
had good games, as did sophomore second
baseman
Vanezza Martin Del Campo (St.
Joseph HS), who went 3-for-5 with an
RBI.
