Before the rain washed out the rest of the playoff action at the Glendale Tournament, the Cerritos College softball team had defeated four teams, including one in the playoff bracket format. The Falcons registered wins over Los Angeles Mission College (6-0) and Imperial Valley College (14-3) on Friday and then defeated Santa Barbara City College, 13-1 to win their bracket. They then beat San Diego Mesa College, 5-1 in the first scheduled playoff game on Saturday before rain washed out the remainder of the tournament. Next up for Cerritos (5-0) is a non-conference road game on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. against Los Angeles Valley College. In the win over LA Mission, the Falcons scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning, as sophomore outfielder Capree Williams (Paramount HS/Bethune Cookman University) drove in two with a bases loaded hit before sophomore shortstop Jenel Guadagno (Warren HS) followed with a two-run single of her own. The duo, along with freshman outfielder Jennifer Salas (California HS) and sophomore designated hitter Charlee Cox (Warren HS) all had two hits apiece, while sophomore pitcher Korrin Soldan (Katella HS) pitched a complete-game shutout.
Cerritos finished off the Bulldogs in five innings after scoring four runs in the fourth inning and seven more in the fifth inning and collected 16 hits on the day. Guadagno had another two-run single in the game, while sophomore third baseman Katie Colln (Mayfair HS) and sophomore pitcher Jessica Navarro (South Gate HS) each added RBI singles. In the fifth inning, sophomore second baseman Vanezza Martin Del Campo (St. Joseph HS) led off with a home run, before freshman Carli Walters (Cathedral City HS) connected on a three-run pinch-hit home run. After the team batted around, Martin Del Campo added a two-run single, with freshman pitcher Liz Reveles (Mayfair HS) earning the win. Williams went 3-for-3 at the plate with four runs scored and three stolen bases, with Guadagno, Navarro, Martin Del Campo and Walters all driving in three runs.
For the third game in a row, the Falcons rode the momentum of a big inning, as they broke open a close 3-1 game against Santa Barbara City College by scoring 10 runs in the top of the sixth inning. Cerritos jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning after Williams led off with a single, stole second base and scoring on a singe by Guadagno. After an out was recorded, Salas drove home Guadagno and then came around to score on an RBI base hit by sophomore first baseman Stephanie Lomeli (Downey HS). With the game still close at 3-1, the Falcons started their 10-run sixth inning with a leadoff double by Salas. Sophomore catcher Nadine Garcia (St. Joseph HS) followed with a single before Lomeli drilled a three-run home run. After the team loaded the bases, Guadagno drove home a run with a base hit, which set up a bases clearing triple by Martin Del Campo. After an infield hit by Salas, Garcia connected on a two-run triple and then scored on a Lomeli base hit. Soldan pitched the first three innings and earned the win, with Navarro coming in to pitch the final three innings.
Against San Diego Mesa, Navarro was dominant in the circle, as she allowed three singles and struck out seven to earn the win. Walters went 3-for-3 with two RBI in the win, while Salas and Lomeli each added two hits.
