Sophomores Jessica Navarro (South Gate HS) and Stephanie Lomeli (Montebello HS) combined to go 5-for-9 at the plate with nine RBI and four runs scored, as the Cerritos College softball team posted a 15-4 win at Los Angeles Valley College on Tuesday in a non-conference game. The win improved the team’s record to 6-0 on the season, as they head to Santa Ana College on Thursday for a 2:30 p.m. non-conference game. The Falcons broke open a 1-0 game with six runs in the top of the third inning and ran away with the game, which was stopped after six innings due to the mercy rule. Navarro clubbed a two-run double after sophomore shortstop Jenel Guadagno (Warren HS) slapped a run-scoring single. Lomeli followed with an RBI single before freshman outfielder Jennifer Salas (California HS) finished off the scoring in the inning with a two-run home run.
The offense didn’t stop there, as Lomeli added another RBI single in the fourth inning and eventually scored when she stole home. A two-run double by Lomeli accounted for the scoring in the fifth inning, while Navarro drilled a two-run triple in the sixth inning. The other two Falcon runs came home on wild pitches in the sixth.
Sophomore pitcher Korrin Soldan (Katella HS) earned her second win of the year after pitching the first three innings, while freshman Liz Reveles (Mayfair HS) went the next two before Navarro threw the final inning. On the day, Cerritos had 15 hits, with Lomeli and Guadagno each getting three hits, while Navarro, Salas, sophomore catcher Nadine Garcia (St. Joseph HS) and sophomore outfielder Capree Williams (Paramount HS/Bethune Cookman University) each added two hits. Williams stole two more bases in the first inning and has now swiped 11 bases in as many tries on the season.
