The Cerritos College softball team registered their second shutout in the same day, as the Falcons posted an 8-0 non-conference win in six innings over College of the Canyons at Nancy Kelly Field on Saturday afternoon. Earlier in the day, the team posted a 2-0 win over Fullerton College. Cerritos (16-1) will now resume South Coast Conference play on Tuesday when they host Mt. San Antonio in a 3:00 p.m. game. The scoring started in the first inning for the Falcons, as sophomore shortstop Jenel Guadagno (Warren HS) singled and stole second and third base. She then came home on a sacrifice fly by freshman catcher Nadine Garcia (Mayfair HS). Cerritos then exploded for four runs in the bottom of the second inning, with freshman outfielder Jennifer Salas (California HS) leading off with a solo home run. Freshman Desiree Miera (Downey HS) followed with a base hit before sophomore third baseman Katie Colln (Mayfair HS) drew a walk. With two outs, Guadagno then drilled a two-run double, with Garcia adding an run-scoring single.
Sophomore pitcher Korrin Soldan (Katella HS) pitched the first three innings, while freshman Liz Reveles (Mayfair HS) went the final three innings. The two combined to surrender just three hits, while Soldan (8-0) recorded five strikeouts.
On offense, Guadagno had three hits and drove in four runs, while sophomore outfielder Capree Williams (Paramount HS/Bethune-Cookman University) had two hits. The Falcons also received six walks in the game and converted them into three of their runs.
