The Cerritos College softball team won their fourth game in a row after suffering their first loss of the season last week, as the Falcons posted a six-inning, 9-0 South Coast Conference win over El Camino College at Nancy Kelly Field on Tuesday afternoon. With the victory, Cerritos improved to 19-1 overall and 6-1 in SCC play, while the Warriors dropped to 5-7-1 on the year and 0-5-1 in conference action. The Falcons will now host a pair of non-conference games on Saturday, as they face Santiago Canyon College (10:00 a.m.) and Bakersfield College at 2:00 p.m. It was a 4-0 lead on Tuesday in the bottom of the first inning, as sophomore outfielder Capree Williams (Paramount HS/Bethune-Cookman University) led off with a base hit and scored on the double by sophomore shortstop Jenel Guadagno (Warren HS). After a wild pitch advanced Guadagno to third, she came home on a sacrifice fly by sophomore pitcher Jessica Navarro (South Gate HS). Sophomore first baseman Stephanie Lomeli (Montebello HS) followed with a single, with sophomore catcher Nadine Garcia (St. Joseph HS) drawing a walk. Freshman outfielder Jennifer Salas (California HS) then followed with a two-run single to give the Falcons a 4-0 lead.
Navarro (9-1) didn’t need any more offense, as she was in the process of posting her ninth win and third shutout on the year. She surrendered three hits and three walks, while striking out four batters on the day,
The Falcons picked up single runs in the second, third and fifth innings, while a two-run double by sophomore second baseman Vanezza Martin Del Campo (St. Joseph HS) in the sixth ended the game on the eight-run mercy rule. Guadagno picked up an RBI double in the second inning, while Salas (3-for-3) drove in her third run of the game in the fifth. Sophomore designated hitter Charlee Cox (Warren HS) added an RBI double in the third inning. Williams also finished the day with three hits and scored twice.
