The Cerritos College softball team improved their season record to 21-1 after they earned home wins over Santiago Canyon College (7-2) and Bakersfield College (7-0) on Saturday. The Falcons will now take to the road on Sunday and play two non-conference games at Fullerton College.
In the win over the Hawks, sophomore pitcher Korrin Soldan (Katella HS) ran her season record to 10-0 by tossing a complete game and had a shutout through the first six innings before surrendering both run in the top of the seventh inning.
Offensively, the Falcons opened up a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when sophomore first baseman Stephanie Lomeli (Montebello HS) led off with a base hit and stole second. After a base hit by freshman second baseman Vanezza Martin Del Campo (St. Joseph HS) advanced freshman pinch-runner Kayla Campo (Mira Costa HS), freshman Jennifer Salas (California HS) drove in Campo with a base hit. The second run came on a double-steal, with Martin Del Campo scoring.
Sophomore catcher Nadine Garcia (Mayfair HS) collected a pair of RBI singles, while sophomores Charlee Cox (Warren HS) and Capree Williams (Paramount HS/Bethune-Cookman University) each added RBIs.
In the second game, a five-hit shutout from sophomore Jessica Navarro (South Gate HS), Williams drove in three of the runs, with two coming on a base hit in the fourth inning and the other on a base hit in the sixth. Cerritos opened the scoring in the first inning, as Martin Del Campo drove home Navarro, who doubled with two outs. The big blow was a towering two-run home run by Salas in the second inning. Salas finished the game with three hits and three runs scored.
