Freshman
outfielder
Lauren
Castrellon (Downey HS) clubbed
a pair of home runs, while freshman first baseman
Ashley Ventura (Carson HS)
added a solo blast to help lead the Cerritos College
softball team to a 10-2, five-inning win over East
Los Angeles College in a South Coast Conference game
at Nancy Kelly Field on Tuesday. The Falcons,
leaders of the SCC, are now 12-1 in conference play
and improved to 30-9-1 overall, while the Huskies
fell to 25-12 and 7-6. Cerritos will now look to
extend their two-game SCC lead on Thursday when they
travel to second place Mt. San Antonio at 3:00 p.m.
After allowing an
unearned run to East LA in the top of the first
inning, the Falcons scored an unearned run of their
own in the bottom of the stanza. In the second,
Ventura led off with her third round-tripper of the
season. After an out was recorded, sophomore third
baseman
Desiree
Miera (Downey HS) drew a walk
before Castrellon (3-for-4, 3 RBI, 3 runs) doubled.
Freshman shortstop
Cassandra
Godoy (Downey HS) walked to
load the bases for freshman catcher
Samantha
Vaaulu (Warren HS), who
singled in a pair of runs. Godoy scored the fourth
run of the inning on a passed ball.
Castrellon then
led off the fourth inning with her ninth home run,
while her 10th of the season ended the game on the
eight-run mercy rule in the fifth inning. Freshman
second baseman
Lindsey
Marquez (Gahr HS) and freshman
outfielder
Devin
Salmones (Gahr HS) each
doubled in a run in the fourth, while Ventura added
an RBI single.
Freshman pitcher
Hillary Perez-Ashley (Long Beach
Poly HS) ran her record to 21-5 on the year
after allowing just two hits, while both runs were
unearned. She also struck out two on the day.
