The Cerritos
College softball team found many different ways to
score runs in the four innings they were at the
plate in their 21-2 South Coast Conference
five-inning win over El Camino College on Tuesday
afternoon at Nancy Kelly Field. The Falcons
collected 15 hits on the day, and scored by way of
hits, walks, errors and overthrown balls. The win
improves the team's record to 16-4-1 overall, and
are now 5-0 in SCC action, while the Warriors
dropped to 2-9 and 0-2. Cerritos will now travel to
Long Beach City College on Thursday for a 3:00 p.m.
conference game.
The Falcons scored
three runs in the first inning, four more in the
second, added eight in the third inning and finished
it off with six more runs in the fourth inning. The
scoring started with a two-run home run by freshman
catcher
Samantha
Vaaulu (Warren HS), her
seventh blast of the season. Sophomore outfielder
Jennifer Salas (California HS)
followed with a double, while sophomore third
baseman
Desiree
Miera (Downey HS) brought her
in with a double.
On the day, eight
different players drove in at least one run, with
freshman first baseman
Ashley
Ventura (Carson HS) collecting
a pair of two-run singles for four RBI on the day.
Freshman infielder
Lauren
Castrellon (Downey HS) hit her
fifth home run in the fourth inning and scored four
runs in the game.
A trio of pitchers
saw action in the circle, with freshman
Hillary Perez-Ashley (Long Beach
Poly HS) pitching the first inning, while
Joanna Avila (El Rancho HS)
earned the win with her three innings of work.
Freshman
Cereena
Marquez (Granite Hills HS)
pitched the fifth inning.
Freshman
designated hitter
Brandi
Rummel (La Serna HS) had
three hits to lead the team, while Vaaulu (2-for-4,
2 RBI, 2 runs), Salas (2-for-3, 3 RBI 3 runs), Miera
(2-for-3, 2 runs), Ventura (2-for-4, 4 RBI) and
sophomore outfielder
