Riverside pushed across runs in the first and third innings
before Cerritos used consecutive doubles to get on
the scoreboard.
Trailing 2-0, the Falcons scored their lone run in the fourth
inning. Freshman catcher
Samantha
Vaaulu (
Warren HS) doubled
down the left-field line and came around to score on
RBI-double to left-center field by sophomore
Jennifer
Salas (
California HS).
In the home half of the first, the Tigers Jackie Serna
doubled and was sacrificed to third on a bunt
by Alex Redman. After a walk to Olivia Wilcox put
runners at the corners, Audriana Gutierrez reached
first base on a fielding error by freshman shortstop
Cassandra Godoy (Dow
ney
HS), which drove in Serna for a 1-0 RCC lead. In the
third, Redman singled, was sacrificed to second,
went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a
RBI-single by Rikki Scates.
Cerritos freshman pitcher
Hillary Perez-Ashley (
Long Beach
Poly HS) went the distance and saw her record
dip to 16-4, while Afton Williamson went the first
five innings for Riverside to improve to 9-1.
