11.21.11 - Pair of Falcons earn conference awards
After finishing in fourth place in the very strong South Coast Conference, the Cerritos College volleyball team had a pair of players earn post-season awards. The Falcons, who finished 10-12 on the year, saw sophomore outside hitter Lupe Garcia (Foshay Learning Center HS) garner 1st Team All-SCC honors, while sophomore outside hitter Andrea Stovall (Lynwood HS) was selected to the 2nd Team.

Garcia, who started her career with Cerritos as a setter, moved to outside hitter to utilize her skills, and she responded by leading the team with 189 kills, as well as finishing second on the team with 170 digs and added 116 assists. She also paced the team with 39 service aces and added 16 blocks for the Falcons.

Stovall, who had a two-year career on the Cerritos track and field team, finished second on the team with 109 kills, while recording 24 blocks and added 38 digs. As a member of the track team, Stovall showed her versatility by placing fifth at the state championships in the high jump and seventh in the heptathlon as a sophomore after coming in eighth in the high jump her freshman season...[more]



11.16.11 - Cerritos finishes conference with win
With a bid in the Southern California Regional Playoffs still an outside possibility, the Cerritos College volleyball team concluded their regular season with a 25-20, 25-18, 25-14 win over Los Angeles Harbor College on Wednesday night. The win evened the Falcons SCC record at 7-7, while they finished the regular season with a 10-12 record. The seeding for the post season is scheduled to take place on November 20...[more]

11.10.11 - Team unable to get on track in loss
The Cerritos College volleyball team never really was able to get on track in their South Coast Conference loss to Mt. San Antonio College on Wednesday. The Falcons, who were defeated 20-25, 7-25, 13-25, dropped to 9-12 overall and 6-7 in conference play with one match left in the season. Cerritos, still looking to maintain fourth place in the conference - behind three teams that are ranked in the top eight in the state - close out the season on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. when they host Los Angeles Harbor College at Gahr HS...[more]

11.09.11 - Falcons sweep past LA Trade-Tech
With the season coming to a close next week, the Cerritos College volleyball team is still fighting for fourth place in the South Coast Conference. The Falcons evened their conference record at 6-6 with their 25-13, 25-11, 25-23 win at Los Angeles Trade-Tech on Wednesday night. The team has two matches remaining, as they will travel to face #8-ranked Mt. San Antonio on Thursday and then close out the season when they host Los Angeles Harbor College next Wednesday...[more]

11.04.11 - Cerritos swept by El Camino
Cerritos was swept by El Camino in South Coast Conference play.On Wednesday, the Cerritos College volleyball team faced the state's #7-ranked Pasadena City College in a South Coast Conference match, and followed that with another SCC match against #3-ranked El Camino College. Just as they did against the Lancers, the Falcons (8-11, 5-6) were swept by the Warriors, 17-25, 20-25, 13-25. The team will now travel to Los Angeles Trade-Tech College for a 7:00 p.m. match on Wednesday.

Held to just five kills in the loss, sophomore Lupe Garcia (Foshay Learning Center HS) and the rest of the Falcons struggled at the net against the taller El Camino team. As a team, Cerritos had just 18 kills, but 16 kill errors, while sophomore Aundrea Stovall (Lynwood HS) shared the team lead with five kills. 11.02.11 - Winning streak snapped by Pasadena City
After winning three straight South Coast Conference matches in a row, the Cerritos College volleyball team saw that come to an end on Wednesday, as #7-ranked Pasadena City College defeated the Falcons, 8-25, 17-25, 17-25 to drop the team's record to 8-10 overall and 5-5 in the SCC. It doesn't get any easier for Cerritos, as they host #3-ranked El Camino College at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at Gahr HS...[more]

10.28.11 - Falcons win third match in a row
With an outside chance at qualifying for the Southern California Regional Playoffs, the Cerritos College volleyball team took one step closer by posting a thrilling 25-23, 27-25, 25-19 South Coast Conference win at Long Beach City College on Friday to pull into sole possession of fourth place. The Falcons, who are now 8-9 overall, are 5-4 in the SCS with five games remaining. The team will have their hands full next week, as they face a pair of top 10 teams in the state, starting with a 6:00 p.m. match at Pasadena City College on Tuesday and then hosting El Camino College at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at Gahr HS...[more]

10.26.11 - Cerritos evens conference record with sweep
For the second time this season, the Cerritos College volleyball team posted a win over East Los Angeles College, as they recorded a sweep, 25-17, 25-13, 25-17 on Tuesday. The win evens the Falcons South Coast Conference record at 4-4, while they are now 7-9 on the season. The team will look for their third straight win on Friday, as they travel to Long Beach City College for a 6:00 p.m. match...[more]

10.21.11 - Lupe Garcia posts 21 kills in victory
When she started her career with the Cerritos College volleyball team, sophomore Lupe Garcia (Foshay Learning Center HS) was used primarily as a setter. But with the Falcons needing help at the net, and two freshmen taking over the setting duties, Garcia is now the team's kills leader. She added 21 kills to her season total in the team's 25-19, 26-24, 25-19 South Coast Conference win at Los Angeles Harbor College on Friday night. The win improved their record to 6-9 overall and 3-4 in SCC play, with the team hosting East Los Angeles College at 6:30 p.m. next Wednesday...[more]

10.19.11 - Falcons drop conference match
Lupe Garcia (33) led the Falcons with eight kills in their loss to Mt. SAC.Looking to string a pair of wins in a row, the Cerritos College volleyball team was defeated by visiting Mt. San Antonio College, 14-25, 21-25, 17-25 on Wednesday at Gahr HS. The loss dropped the Falcons record to 5-9 overall and 2-4 in South Coast Conference play. The team will travel to Los Angeles Harbor College on Friday for a 6:00 p.m. conference match.

Cerritos wasn't able to generate much offense against the Mounties, although they did receive eight kills from sophomore Lupe Garcia (Foshay Learning Center HS), with the next highest kill total coming from sophomore Aundrea Stovall (Lynwood HS), who had three. Freshman Brittany Buffington (Mayfair HS) contributed five assists, five digs and three service aces in the loss...[more]

10.14.11 - Straight set sweep snaps losing skid
After dropping their last three matches, the Cerritos College volleyball team was in need of a victory. On Friday, they got just what they were looking for, as they defeated visiting Los Angeles Trade-Tech College, 25-17, 25-18, 25-21 in a South Coast Conference matches. 10.12.11 - Cerritos defeated by El Camino
Playing two of the top-ranked schools in the state in back-to-back matches is tough for any team to contend with, especially such a young team like the Cerritos College volleyball squad. The Falcons, who were swept by #6-ranked Pasadena City College in their previous match, suffered a 13-25, 14-25, 23-25 loss at the hands of #3-ranked El Camino College on Wednesday. Cerritos (4-8 overall, 1-3 SCC) will now host Los Angeles Trade-Tech at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at Gahr HS...[more]

10.07.11 - Falcons swept by Pasadena City
Cerritos loses to Pasadena City in three sets.Facing the #6-ranked team in the state on Friday night, the Cerritos College volleyball team came out on the short end of a 17-25, 15-25, 23-25 loss against Pasadena City College (11-1, 3-0) in a South Coast Conference match. The loss was the second in a row for the Falcons (4-7, 1-2) after they had won two consecutive matches. The team will now travel on Wednesday to face #4-ranked El Camino College on the road.

The three-set loss was highlighted by a nine-kill, no-error performance by sophomore Lupe Garcia (Foshay Learning Center HS), who also led the team with eight digs, while adding six assists and a team-high three service aces. 10.05.11 - Team drops tough five-set match to Long Beach
Andrea Stovall (44) had nine kills in the Falcons five-set loss to Long Beach City.Looking to gain some confidence after struggling through parts of the season, the Cerritos College volleyball team was just one game away from a big win over rival Long Beach City College on Wednesday at Gahr HS. The Falcons opened the match with a 27-25 win, then dropped the second set, 25-27 before rebounding for a 26-24 win. But in the fourth set, Cerritos was within striking distance of pulling out the win, but several service errors ended their chance, as they dropped the fourth set, 20-25 and then saw the Vikings win the deciding set, 11-15. The Falcons (4-6, 1-1) will now host Pasadena City at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at Gahr HS.

At times, the Falcons dominated the net, with sophomore Amber Finley (Gahr HS) recording nine blocks, while freshman Andrea Garrett (Cerritos HS) adding six blocks. In addition, sophomore Lupe Garcia (Foshay Learning Center HS) led the team with 14 kills (two errors), while also directing the offense with nine assists and posted four digs with three service aces. 09.30.11 - Cerritos wins second straight match
The Cerritos College volleyball team opened South Coast Conference play on Friday with a come-from-behind 17-25, 25-10, 25-20, 25-17 win over host East Los Angeles College. It was the second win in a row for the Falcons (4-5, 1-0), who will host Long Beach City College at 6:30 p.m. at Gahr High on Wednesday in another conference match...[more]

09.28.11 - Falcons win five-set match
Aundrea Stovall (44) records one of her seven kills in the Falcons five-set win over San Bernardino Valley.For the second time in 11 days, the Cerritos College volleyball team has defeated San Bernardino Valley College. Back on September 17, the Falcons won a four-set match as part of the San Diego Mesa Tournament. On Wednesday, Cerritos (3-5) posted a 21-25, 25-16, 25-16, 21-25, 15-12 non-conference road win in their final match before the start of South Coast Conference play. On Friday at 6:00 p.m., the Falcons will travel to East Los Angeles College for their conference opener.

Sophomore setter Lupe Garcia (Foshay Learning Center HS) led the team in just about every category in the win over the Wolverines (4-8), as he posted 10 kills (one error), along with 12 assists and added 10 digs. Garcia responded with three kills in the fifth set, while she also had three kills in the first set. Sophomore Aundrea Stovall (Lynwood HS) contributed seven kills and three blocks, with freshman Andrea Garrett (Cerritos HS) posting five blocks at the net...[more]


Cerritos College volleyball team supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Cerritos College volleyball team is supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month by donning pink jerseys.

09.27.11 - Volleyball team participates in cause
In the month of October, the Cerritos College volleyball team will be participating in the Side-Out Foundation's Dig Pink National Breast Cancer Awareness Rally, as well as their own "Volley for the Cure" campaign. The first game in which the Falcons will be participating will be their 6:30 p.m. South Coast Conference match against rival Long Beach City College. Cerritos is playing their home matches this season at Gahr High while the gym is under construction.

The Falcon volleyball program is supporting the cause to promote breast cancer awareness and to pay their respects to those who have lost their lives and who continue to battle breast cancer. The team will be wearing pink jerseys in matches for the whole month of October. The money that is raised through donations and t-shirt sales during the home matches in October will be donated directly to the Side-Out Foundation. In 2009 the Cerritos volleyball team raised $560.00 and their goal for 2011 is $700.00.
 

09.21.11 - Loss to Grossmont extends slow start
Still looking for the right combinations, the Cerritos College volleyball team was defeated in three straight games by Grossmont College in a non-conference match, 12-25, 23-25, 17-25. The Falcons, who opened the year with a win, have now lost five of their last six matches and are 2-5 on the year. They will travel to San Bernardino Valley College next Wednesday for a 5:00 p.m. match. Cerritos defeated the Wolverines in four games last weekend at the San Diego Mesa Tournament...[more]

09.17.11 - Cerritos drops three of four at SD Mesa Tournament
In their first tournament of the young season, the Cerritos College volleyball team dropped three of four matches at the San Diego Mesa Tournament over the weekend. The Falcons, who dropped to 2-4 on the year, were defeated by College of the Canyons (18-25, 15-25, 14-25) and Riverside College (18-25, 15-25, 15-25) on the first day before they came back on the second day and opened with a 17-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-19 win over San Bernardino Valley College. They concluded the tournament with a 17-25, 23-25, 15-25 setback against Glendale College. Cerritos will travel back down to the San Diego area on Wednesday when they face Grossmont College at 5:00 p.m. in a non-conference match...[more]

09.14.11 - Falcons get swept by Fullerton
Cerritos College was swept by Fullerton, 3-0.With such a young team this season, the Cerritos College volleyball team will find as the season progresses, they will be able to deal better against more experienced teams. On Wednesday night at Gahr High, the Falcons (1-1) struggled against the taller and more experienced Fullerton College Hornets, who posted a 25-19, 25-11, 25-15 win over Cerritos. The team will look to regroup at the San Diego Mesa Tournament, which will take place on Friday and Saturday.

In the first game against the Hornets (2-0), the Falcons made 10 hitting errors, which contributed to their loss. Sophomore setter Lupe Garcia (Foshay Learning Center HS) recorded three of her four kills on the night in the first set, with sophomore Andrea Stovall (Lynwood HS) a perfect 4-for-4 at the net in the second game. In their first match of the season, the Cerritos College volleyball team jumped out to a quick 2-0 games lead over visiting Santa Ana College and went on to post a 25-9, 25-20, 21-25, 25-23 non-conference win at Gahr High. 11.19.10 - Falcons have two players earn All-Conference
Freshman outside hitter/setter Jessika Suesoff (La Habra HS) and sophomore outside hitter Chanelle Puou (California HS) were both recognized as Cerritos College volleyball All-South Coast Conference selections at the conference's post-season meeting.
