11.18.09 - Falcons prepare for the playoffs
On the strength of their 25-15, 25-21, 25-19 win at Los Angeles City College on Wednesday night, the Cerritos College volleyball team will now be gearing up for the start of the Southern California Regional Playoffs. The selection of playoff teams will be held on Saturday, but in the latest state poll, the Falcons were ranked #18. 11.13.09 - Cerritos secures at least a share of third place
Cerritos College defeats Mt. San Antonio to secure at least a share of third place in the South Coast Conference. On the strength of their 25-20, 25-17, 25-15 home win over Mt. San Antonio College on Friday night, the Cerritos College volleyball team has secured themselves at least a tie for third place in the South Coast Conference. The Falcons, ranked #18 in the state, ended their regular season 13-7 overall and 10-5 in conference action, while the Mounties (9-5) will play Long Beach City College in their final match. The seedings for the Southern California Regional Playoffs will be held November 21, while the first round of the playoffs are scheduled for November 24. The post-season bid will be the first for Cerritos since the 2006 season.

Playing with vigor and enthusiasm, the Falcons took control of the match from the outset and made very few errors all night. In fact, the team has as many service errors (6) as they did kill errors. After opening up a 6-0 lead in the first game, Cerritos saw the Mounties get as close as 10-8 before slowly pulling away. 11.09.09 - Sweep by Pasadena snaps winning streak
The Cerritos College volleyball team knew they were in for a tough match against Pasadena City College on Monday. The Lancers entered the match leading the South Coast Conference and were riding an 18-match winning streak. By contrast, the Falcons had a two-match winning streak and were looking for a big win to help them in their quest for a post-season bid. But Pasadena City had too many weapons and posted a 25-23, 25-12, 25-22 win over Cerritos. The team is now 12-7 overall and 9-5 in conference play with just two matches remaining. Their most important match is on Friday at 6:00 p.m. when they host Mt. San Antonio College, as third place in the SCC is on the line...[more]

11.06.09 - Falcons sweep past LA Harbor
With only three regular season matches remaining, the Cerritos College volleyball team is well aware of how important each victory is, as they look to advance to the Southern California Regional Playoffs. The Falcons showed that determination on Friday night when they swept visiting Los Angeles Harbor College, 25-5, 25-12, 25-14 to improve to 12-6 overall and 9-4 in South Coast Conference action. The Cerritos College volleyball team, still in the hunt for a Southern California Regional Playoff bid, took another step forward when they defeated host East Los Angeles College, 25-13, 25-21, 25-10 in a South Coast Conference match on Wednesday. 10.28.09 - Comeback sparks four-game win for Falcons

Trailing 15-12 in the third game of their South Coast Conference match, the Cerritos College volleyball team went on to score 13 of the next 16 points to post a 25-18 win and use that momentum to defeat rival Long Beach City College in four games on Wednesday night. The Falcons (10-5 overall, 7-3 SCC) kept their post-season hopes alive with their 25-21, 22-25, 25-18, 25-21 win over the Vikings (8-10, 6-5) with six more conference matches remaining. Cerritos, ranked #21 in the state, will now travel to face two-time defending state champion El Camino College on Friday night. The Warriors are ranked #2 in the state and trail conference-leading Pasadena City College by one game.

In that critical turnaround during the third game, sophomore Kristen Trillo (Santa Fe HS) served six straight points, which included a service ace and a pair of kills by freshman Chanelle Puou (California HS). 10.21.09 - Cerritos starts second round with win
The Cerritos College volleyball team started the second round of South Coast Conference action the way they did in the first round - with a win. The Falcons defeated host Los Angeles Trade-Tech College 25-10, 25-12, 25-11 to improve to 9-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play. The team will return to action next Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. when they host rival Long Beach City College...[more]

10.16.09 - Falcons have little trouble with LA City
On the strength of their 37% kill percentage and 12 service aces, the Cerritos College volleyball team had little trouble in sweeping visiting Los Angeles City College in a South Coast Conference match on Friday night. The Falcons (8-5 overall, 5-3 SCC) swept the Cubs, 25-17, 25-6, 25-8 to snap a two-match losing streak. The team will now travel to Los Angeles Trade-Tech College for a 7:00 p.m. match on Wednesday...[more]

10.14.09 - Cerritos drops conference match to Mt. SAC
The Cerritos College volleyball team entered their South Coast Conference match at Mt. San Antonio College on Wednesday night tied for third place with the Mounties. The winner would take over sole possession of third place and have an inside track toward Southern California Regional Playoff implications. After the Falcons captured the first game against the Mounties, 25-13, everything went downhill from there, as Mt. San Antonio (8-4 overall, 5-2 SCC) went on sweep the next three games, 25-21, 25-22, 25-14. 10.09.09 - Mistakes cost Falcons in conference loss
When playing a team ranked #8 in the state, it goes without saying that mistakes have to be kept at a minimum in order to come away with an upset win. On Friday night, the Cerritos College volleyball team, ranked #22 in the state, suffered a 22-25, 21-25, 14-25 home loss to eighth-ranked Pasadena City College, who improved to 12-1 overall and 6-0 in South Coast Conference play. The Falcons, who are now 7-4 overall and 4-2 in conference action, will now travel to Mt. San Antonio College on Wednesday for a 6:00 p.m. conference match...[more]

10.07.09 - Falcons sweep past LA Harbor
The Cerritos College volleyball team improved their season record to 7-3, while they are now 4-1 in South Coast Conference play after their 25-12, 25-14, 25-15 sweep of Los Angeles Harbor College on Wednesday night. 10.02.09 - Cerritos makes quick work of East Los Angeles

Cerritos College made quick work of East LA in three games.The Cerritos College volleyball team needed just over an hour to sweep East Los Angeles College in a South Coast Conference match on Friday night. The Falcons (6-3 overall, 3-1 SCC) posted a 25-12, 25-12, 25-14 win over the Huskies and will look to ride that momentum next Wednesday when they travel to Los Angeles Harbor College for a 6:00 p.m. contest.

The win started fast and ended that way, as the Falcons opened up big leads in all three games. It was a 9-2 advantage in the first game, followed by an 11-5 lead in the second and 8-2 in the third. In fact, the second game was as close as a 6-5 Cerritos lead, but the team scored five straight points and never looked back...[more]



09.30.09 - Falcons push El Camino to four games
Photo by Juan Velez. Cerritos College pushes El Camino to four gamesThe Cerritos College volleyball team has shown so far during the season that they are a very improved team. But in their South Coast Conference home match against El Camino College on Wednesday night, the Falcons found out why the Warriors are the two-time defending stats champions. Cerritos (5-3, 2-1) did drop a 15-25, 26-24, 12-25, 20-25 decision, but fought El Camino (13-0, 3-0) until the final point was scored. On numerous occasions, the Falcons thought they had scored a crucial point, but the digging skills of the Warriors kept points alive. Cerritos will look to expand on their strong performance when they host East Los Angeles College at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

After a slow start to the first game, Cerritos came out strong in the second game and opened up an 11-5 lead with six different players recording at least one kill. After a Warrior timeout, they scored four straight points until sophomore Sarah Naranjo (Santa Fe HS) ended the rally with a kill. El Camino eventually took a 16-15 lead and when the match was tied at 24 after three straight Warrior points, the Falcons came to life and scored consecutive kills, with sophomore Krystel Luna (Downey HS/Pasadena City College) and Naranjo finishing off the game...[more]


09.28.09 - Cerritos wins fourth straight match

With their 25-14, 25-10, 28-26 South Coast Conference win over Los Angeles Trade-Tech College on Monday night, the Cerritos College volleyball team has now won four straight matches. The Falcons (5-2 overall, 2-0 SCC) will have their toughest test of the season at home on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. when they host two-time defending state champion El Camino College in an SCC match.

Cerritos jumped out to early leads in the first two games and never looked back, while they rested most of their starters for the third game. Leading the way in the win were freshman Chanelle Puou (California HS) and Yawen Zhan (China), who each had seven kills, while Zhan added three service aces and two blocks. In the third game, freshman Sarah Rodriguez (Montebello HS) posted six of her team-high eight kills, while she also led the team with four service aces and registered seven digs...[more]


09.25.09 - Falcons open conference with big win
The Cerritos College volleyball team took another step toward putting themselves back in with some of the elite teams in Southern California. On Friday night, the Falcons opened South Coast Conference play with a 23-25, 26-24, 25-18, 25-20 win at Long Beach City College. The win improved the team's record to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in conference action. Cerritos will now host Los Angeles Trade-Tech College in a 6:00 p.m. conference match on Monday...[more]


09.23.09 - Cerritos comes away with thrilling win
Photo by Juan Velez. Chanelle Puou finished with a career-high 25 kills during thursdays match against Fullerton College.It was a match that went back and forth from the very beginning. But in the end, the Cerritos College volleyball team came away with a thrilling 18-25, 25-21, 25-20, 19-25, 18-16 non-conference home win over Fullerton College on Wednesday night. The win improved the Falcons record to 3-2 on the season with the start of South Coast Conference play right around the corner. The team will travel to Long Beach City College on Friday for their 6:00 p.m. conference opener.

For the first four games, the team primarily turned to freshman Chanelle Puou (California HS) and sophomore Sarah Naranjo (Santa Fe HS) when they needed a kill. Puou, who finished with a career-high 25 kills and Naranjo, who added 14 kills, had some help in the deciding fifth game. Sophomore Yawen Zhan (China), who led the team with five blocks, provided a big kill in the final game, as did sophomore setter Monique Gayton (La Serna HS) and sophomore back-row specialist Krystel Luna (Downey HS/Pasadena City College)...[more]


09.19.09 - Falcons finish third in consolation at SD Mesa
Competing in their first best-of-five series of the new season, the Cerritos College volleyball team got a taste of what it will take to be successful during the year. The Falcons, playing in the San Diego Mesa Tournament, dropped a series against Glendale (AZ) College (25-23, 19-25, 24-26, 23-25) before responding with a three-game sweep of the host Olympians, 25-19, 25-21, 25-21. On the second day, the team was defeated by Bakersfield College, 23-25, 25-20, 20-25, 12-25 before closing out with a thrilling 20-25, 25-18, 20-25, 25-22, 15-9 win over Victor Valley College to finished third in the consolation round. Cerritos (2-2) will now host Fullerton College on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in their first non-conference match of the season...[more]


09.12.09 -Volleyball opens at Cuyamaca Tournament
The Cerritos College volleyball opened the 2009 season over the weekend by playing in the Cuyamaca Tournament, which was a series of round-robin matches. The Falcons won five of the nine games they played and swept both games against both Cuyamaca College (25-17, 25-15) and Chaffey College (25-23, 25-18), while taking one of three games against Cypress College (25-19, 21-25, 11-15). The team was also swept in two close matches against College of the Desert (22-25, 23-25). Cerritos will now enter the San Diego Mesa Tournament, which will take place this Friday and Saturday...[more]
