Cerritos College volleyball setter
Christal Lara, who was a 2nd
Team All-South Coast Conference selection,
became the second Falcon player to sign a
scholarship. Lara will join NAIA powerhouse
Dickinson State (ND) University, who
finished fifth in the NAIA National
Championship this past season, and have won
the last 12 Dakota Athletic Conference
championship. While with the Falcons this
past season, Lara helped the team to a
second place finish in the South Coast Coast
Conference as a right side hitter and
setter. She appeared in 80 of the team's 87
games and finished with 65 kills, 275
assists, 114 digs, 31 service aces and 40
blocks.
"I'm
very excited to be going to Dickinson
State," said Lara, who will major in
kinesiology. "They have a reputation for
being very good and I found the area,
coaching staff and players to be everything
I have been looking for. They have an
international team and everybody there was
so welcoming and it made me feel like I was
already a part of their team."
According to
Ali Oliver, who was Lara's
coach with the Falcons, but is now the new
head coach at Whittier College, "I am so
proud of Christal. She didn't start playing
volleyball at a young age like many other
college players, so she is still learning
new aspects of the game every day. She is in
incredible physical shape and is a very hard
worker and will do very well at the NAIA
level."
Last
season, the Blue Hawks went 28-11 on the
year and were 14-0 in conference play. They
won the NAIA Region III Tournament before
getting eliminated by Concordia (CA)
University in the National Tournament.
Last
month,
Terri Del Conte signed a
scholarship with Missouri State University.
