Vanessa Mojica
(Whittier HS), who led the Cerritos
College volleyball team in digs, was
recently named 1st Team All-South
Coast Conference, while the team’s top two
hitters were selected to the 2nd
Team. The Falcons, who finished in fifth
place in conference play with a 6-8 record,
were 6-19 on the season. Sophomore
Kristin Mendoza (St. Paul HS) and
freshman
Brittany Hayes (Artesia
HS) earned 2nd Team
all-conference recognition.
Mojica finished the
season with 256 digs, despite missing the
first several matches of the season, and
also paced the team with 34 service aces. As
for Mendoza, she came on strong in the
latter part of the season and ended up with
203 kills and a .216 hitting percentage,
while her 43 blocks led the team. She also
contributed 23 digs and 19 service aces,
which tied her for third on the team. Hayes,
the team’s leader in kills until the final
week of the year, finished with 197 kills
and 44 digs.
