Freshmen
Brittany Hayes (Artesia HS)
and
Samantha Montiel (Montebello HS)
each recorded 10 kills to help lead the
Cerritos College volleyball team to their
third consecutive South Coast Conference win
after they defeated Los Angeles City
College, 30-23, 30-27, 31-29 on Friday
night. The Falcons are now 3-13 on the
season and 3-2 in SCC play and will now
travel to Mt. San Antonio College for a 6:00
p.m. contest on Wednesday.
The duo had plenty of
help in the win, as four other players had
at least four kills, while the team served
the ball very well and had success at the
net. In the first game, the Falcons took
advantage of numerous Cub errors, while
Hayes and freshman
Teresa Orejel (Santa Fe HS)
came up with big kills to help win the
second game. It was more of Hayes, along
with Montiel that ensured the team would
sweep LA City and record the win.
Orejel
contributed six kills and just one error,
while adding two blocks, with sophomore
Kristin Mendoza (St. Paul HS)
finishing with four kills, four service
aces, three blocks and 11 digs. Freshman
Megan Hayes (Artesia HS) came
through with five kills, while sophomore
Jacquelyn Chacon (Warren HS)
contributed four service aces and 14 digs.
As for freshman setter
Desiree Cortez (Elizabeth
Learning Center HS), she directed the
office with 39 assists, while also adding
four kills and seven digs.
