The Cerritos College volleyball team
was enjoying a three-game South Coast
Conference winning streak after opening
their season with 13 consecutive losses. The
streak came to an end on Wednesday, as Mt.
San Antonio handed the Falcons (3-14, 3-3) a
17-30, 23-30, 20-30 loss. The team will now
host conference-leading El Camino at 7:30
p.m. on Friday.
Playing much more
aggressively, the Falcons were able to keep
rallies going longer, but were just unable
to get the kills necessary to record the
win. They played very well defensively, but
struggled with their serve, as they handed
the Mounties nine points due to service
errors.
Sophomore
Kristin Mendoza (St. Paul HS)
led the team with six kills, while the trio
of freshmen
Brittany Hayes (Artesia HS),
Megan Hayes (Artesia HS) and
Teresa Orejel (Santa Fe HS)
all added five kills. Sophomores
Vanessa Mojica (Whittier HS)
and
Jacqueline Chacon (Warren HS),
along with freshman
Chrystal Gonzalez (Santa Fe HS)
all had double digits in digs, with freshman
Desiree Cortez (Elizabeth
Learning Center HS) dishing off 20
assists in the loss.
