The Cerritos College volleyball team
lost their third straight South Coast
Conference match on Wednesday night, as they
were defeated by Pasadena City College,
26-30, 31-29, 17-30, 20-30. The setback puts
the Falcons record at 3-16 on the year,
while they are now 3-5 in conference action.
The team will look to stop the skid on
Friday when they host cross town rival Long
Beach City College at 7:30 p.m.
Leading the way for the
Falcons was freshman
Brittany Hayes (Artesia HS),
who had 10 kills and just two errors, but
the team could not account for the balanced
attack by the Lancers, who had four players
finish in double-figures in kills. After
dropping a close first game, Cerritos was
able to come away with an even closer second
game to tie the match at one game apiece.
But, Pasadena regained their momentum and
won the next two games to pick up the
victory.
The
Falcons did have some success at the net,
with sophomores
Kristin Mendoza (St. Paul HS)
and
Adriana Fletes (Downey HS)
each sharing the team lead with four blocks,
while the two combined for 13 kills.
Sophomore libero
Vanessa Mojica (Whittier HS)
pitching in with 20 digs, while freshman
Chrystal Gonzalez (Santa Fe HS)
added 14 digs. The duo of freshmen
Julie Reich (La Mirada HS)
and
Teresa Orejel (Santa Fe HS)
each added five kills, with freshman setter
Desiree Cortez (Elizabeth
Learning Center HS) passing off 31
assists.
