Looking to salvage their season with
a win over their rival, the Cerritos College
volleyball team was defeated in four games
by Long Beach City on Friday night. The
25-30, 30-27, 26-30, 22-30 setback dropped
the Falcons to 3-17 on the year and 3-6 in
South Coast Conference play. The team has
five matches left on the year and they will
travel to Los Angeles Trade-Tech College on
Wednesday for a 6:00 p.m. contest. In their

three sets.
Leading the way for the
Falcons in the close match was freshman
Brittany Hayes (Artesia HS),
who pounded home 15 kills, while sophomore
Kristin Mendoza (St. Paul HS)

several outstanding performances by Cerritos
players on defense, along with the play of
freshman setter
Desiree Cortez (Elizabeth
Learning Center HS). Sophomore
Vanessa Mojia (Whittier HS)
recorded a career-high 36 digs in the loss,
while Cortez distributed 44 assists and
added nine digs.
Offensively, the duo of freshmen

finished with 18 digs. Cerritos had eight
blocks on the night, but had trouble at
times receiving the Viking serves and
surrendered nine points on aces.
