put away 11 kills to help lead the Cerritos
College volleyball team to a 30-22, 30-26,
30-18 South Coast Conference win over Los
Angeles Trade-Tech College on Wednesday
night. With the win, the Falcons are now
4-17 overall and 4-6 in conference action.
The team has four games remaining in the
season and will now host East Los Angeles
College at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
Mendoza pounded home six
kills in the first game and then saw
sophomore
Natalie Barajas (California HS)
register five of her eight kills in the
second game. The Falcons were able to score
a lot of their points on the serve, as they
finished with a season-high 18 service aces,
as freshman
Chrystal Gonzalez (Santa Fe HS)
led the team with five. In addition to the
offensive production from both Mendoza and
Barajas, freshman
Brittany Hayes (Artesia HS)
added seven kills, while freshman
Teresa Orejel (Santa Fe HS)
contributed four of her five kills in the
third game.
The
quartet of Barajas, sophomore
Vanessa Mojica (Whittier HS)
and freshmen
Desiree Cortez (Elizabeth
Learning Center HS) and
Amber Olivas (Hacienda Heights
Wilson HS) all finished with three
service aces, while Mojica led the team with
10 digs. Cortez, the team’s setter,
distributed 27 assists in the win.
