Cerritos College freshman volleyball player Sarah Naranjo (Santa Fe HS), who led the Falcons in kills, was named 1st Team All-South Coast Conference, while freshman defensive specialist Angelica Sievers (St. Joseph HS) was a 2nd Team selection. 11.14..08 - Falcons run out of steam against Pasadena City
Through the first two games of their South Coast Conference match at Pasadena City College on Friday night, the Cerritos College volleyball team was very close to holding a 2-0 lead, but were tied 1-1. in the final two games, the Falcons struggled and dropped them, which resulted in a 26-28, 25-17, 9-25, 13-25 setback to the Lancers in their next to last match of the season. 11.12.08 - Team wins final home match of the year

Sarah Naranjo led the way with nine kills and three service aces to help Cerritos Volleyball win their win their final home match of the year.The Cerritos College volleyball team closed out their home schedule on Wednesday night with a 25-13, 25-15, 25-20 South Coast Conference win over Los Angeles City College. The Falcons (9-12 overall, 6-6 SCC) finish their season with two road matches, starting next Wednesday at Pasadena City College and concluding next Friday at Long Beach City College. The team is currently in fifth place in the conference standings.

The three-set win provided the team to balance their offensive attack, with five players accounting for the 27 kills on the night, with freshman Sarah Naranjo (Santa Fe HS) leading the way with nine kills and also paced the squad with three service aces. With one more kill, Naranjo will move into the school's top 25 single season kills leader. In playing every game this year, Naranjo has posted 256 kills...[more]

11.07.08 - Cerritos drops three sets to El Camino
Facing the #2-ranked team in the state, the Cerritos College volleyball team came out on the short end of a 16-25, 13-25, 15-25 South Coast Conference match at El Camino College on Friday night. The Falcons dropped to 8-12 overall and 5-6 in conference action and have three more matches remaining. 11.05.08 - Falcons win second match in a row
The Cerritos College volleyball team swept Los Angeles Trade-Tech College on Wednesday night for their second South Coast Conference win in a row. The 25-8, 25-17, 25-19 win over the Lady Techsters improved the team's record to 8-11 overall and 5-5 in SCC play. The Falcons will now travel to El Camino College and face the state's #2-ranked team on Friday night...[more]

10.31.08 - Strong hitting leads team to win
The Cerritos College volleyball team registered a .321 hitting percentage in their South Coast Conference match against East Los Angeles College on Friday to propel them to a 25-11, 25-13, 20-25, 25-7 win. With the victory, the Falcons are now 7-11 overall and 4-5 in conference action with five matches remaining. 10.29.08 - Falcons struggle in loss to Mt. San Antonio

San Antonio College in the first game of their South Coast Conference match, the Cerritos College volleyball team found it more difficult to maintain any kind of momentum and dropped a 25-27, 20-25, 9-25 contest at home on Wednesday night. The Falcon (6-11 overall, 3-4 SCC) will now play the next three matches on the road, starting with a 6:00 p.m. contest at East Los Angeles College on Friday. In their first meeting, Cerritos swept the Huskies in three games.

Playing without two of their regular starters, the Falcons were lacking depth both at the net and in the back row, as freshmen Britney Otero (Long Beach Wilson HS) and Kristen Trillo (Santa Fe HS) missed the match. Looking to make up for the absence of both was freshman Sarah Naranjo (Santa Fe HS), who not only led the team with nine kills, shared the team lead in digs at eight with freshman defensive specialist Angelica Seivers (St. Joseph HS)...[more]

10.24.08 - Cerritos runs out of steam against Vikings
In another hard-fought attempt to post an upset, the Cerritos College volleyball team came up short, losing, 21-25, 20-25, 25-12, 23-25 to cross-town rival Long Beach City College on Friday night in a South Coast Conference match. The Falcons (6-10 overall, 3-4 SCC) appeared to be headed for a fifth and deciding game, but the Vikings (11-5, 4-3) pulled out the fourth game after trailing, 23-21. Cerritos will now host Mt. 10.22.08 - Falcons extend Pasadena City to five games

Cerritos extended Pasadena City College to five games during Wednesday night's defeat.Riding the momentum of their three-game comeback against Los Angeles City College last Friday night, the Cerritos College volleyball team opened up a 2-0 lead over Pasadena City College on Wednesday night. However, the Lancers fought back and escaped by winning the next three games. The 25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 18-25, 15-17 loss drops the Falcons to 6-9 on the year and 3-3 in SCC play, while the 25th-ranked Lancers are now 9-5 overall and 4-2 in conference action. 10.17.08 - Comeback sparked by solid play
After dropping the first two sets to Los Angeles City College in a South Coast Conference match on Friday night, the Cerritos College volleyball team responded by winning the next three set to pull out the victory. The Falcons, who improved to 6-8 overall and 3-2 in conference action, defeated the Cubs, 23-25, 24-26, 25-20, 25-17, 17-15. 10.15.08 - Cerritos fights hard in three-set loss to El Camino

Cerritos Volleyball put up a hard fight facing the #2 team in the state Wednesday.Facing the #2-ranked team in the state on Wednesday night, the Cerritos College volleyball team put up a hard fight, but still dropped a three-set match to El Camino College, 10-25, 17-25, 18-25 to drop to 5-8 on the year and 2-2 in South Coast Conference play. The Falcons will now travel to Los Angeles City on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. conference match.

Cerritos and the Warriors had numerous long rallies over the course of the match, with most of the points going to El Camino. In the second game, the Falcons held a 14-13 lead after a kill by freshman Mary Faleafine (Artesia HS), but saw the Warriors win 12 of the next 15 points to record a 25-17 win. El Camino turned to Amrita Tuladhar and Eria Kirby for a lot of their points, although it was their defensive prowess that enabled their offense to be effective...[more]

10.10.08 - Falcons waste little time with LA Trade-Tech
In their most dominant performance of the season, the Cerritos College volleyball team didn't need much time to put away Los Angeles Trade-Tech College on Friday evening. The Falcons won their second match in a row with a convincing 25-9, 25-8, 25-9 victory to improve to 5-7 on the year at 2-1 in the SCC. The Cerritos College volleyball team swept past East Los Angeles College on Wednesday night, 25-19, 25-21, 25-12 to even their South Coast Conference record at 1-1, while they are 4-7 on the year. The Falcons will now host Los Angeles Trade-Tech College at 6:00 p.m. on Friday...[more]

10.03.08 - Tough loss for Falcons in SCC opener
Playing one of the closest matches possible, the Cerritos College volleyball team extended Mt. San Antonio College to five games before succumbing, 23-25, 26-24, 25-23, 15-25, 14-16. With the loss, the Falcons are now 3-7 overall and 0-1 in South Coast Conference action. The team will look to even their conference mark on Wednesday when they host East Los Angeles College at 6:00 p.m...[more]

09.24.08 - Cerritos lets one get away against Fullerton
After their first game in their non-conference match at Fullerton College on Wednesday night, the Cerritos College volleyball team seemed to be on their way to a solid win. But the Falcons ran into trouble after that against the Hornets and it resulted in a 25-22, 17-25, 17-25, 13-25 loss. Cerritos (3-6) will now open South Coast Conference play next Friday in a 6:00 p.m. match at Mt. San Antonio College...[more]

09.20.08 - Falcons drop three of four at SD Mesa Tourney
Coming off an inspiring four-set win over Ventura College on Wednesday, the Cerritos College volleyball team went to the San Diego Mesa Tournament and found themselves in trouble. The Falcons (3-5) lost three of the four matches in which they competed and will now look to rebound on Wednesday when they travel to Fullerton College for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference match. 09.17.08 - Four-set win shows promisePhoto by Juan Velez. Sarah Narajo finished with nine kills and two service aces to help Cerritos Volleyball post a win Wednesday night.
The Cerritos College volleyball team turned another corner on the young season with an even younger group. Fighting off several rallies from Ventura College in the fourth game, the Falcons held on to post a win to even their record at 2-2. Facing a team that went 18-2 just two seasons ago, Cerritos registered a 25-21, 24-26, 25-21, 25-21 win over the Pirates (2-6). The team will now travel south to compete in the San Diego Mesa Tournament, which starts on Friday and run through Sunday.

After splitting the first two games, Cerritos broke a 10-10 tie by recording three points without even registering a kill. Then, leading 22-16, the Falcons saw the Pirates score four straight points before Ventura's Randy Hicks hit the ball into the net to end the rally. Another ball hit out by Alexandra Joyce gave the Falcons a 24-20 lead before a service error by Joyce finished the game off with Cerritos winning, 25-21. In that game, the Falcons recorded just five kills, with freshman Sarah Naranjo (Santa Fe HS) posting four on her own...[more]

09.10.08 - Cerritos loses four-set match to Canyons
Despite 10 kills from freshman Samantha Mora (Los Altos HS) and nine kills from freshman Sarah Naranjo (Santa Fe HS), the Cerritos College volleyball team didn't have enough firepower to handle College of the Canyons. The Falcons (1-2) dropped a 12-25, 17-25, 26-24, 14-25 decision to the Cougars on Wednesday night. The team will now host Ventura College at 6:00 p.m. next Wednesday...[more]

09.06.08 - Volleyball captures consolation championship
After a slow start to the season, the Cerritos College volleyball team seems to be hitting their stride. After defeating Citrus College at home on Friday evening, the Falcons took to the road to compete in the Cuyamaca Tournament. Although they had a 2-5 record in pool play, they entered the consolation round and defeated two opponents to win the consolation championship. The team will now travel to College of the Canyons for a 5:00 p.m. match on Wednesday....[more]

09.05.08 - Falcons post first win over CitrusPhoto by Juan Velez: Sarah Naranjo led Cerritos with 10 kills Friday night to help the Falcons post their first win of the year.
The Cerritos College volleyball team withstood every rally put together by visiting Citrus College on Friday evening and posted their first win of the year, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23, 25-18. The Falcons (1-1) don't have much time to revel in the win, as they take to the road to compete in the Cuyamaca Tournament on Saturday.

    In the three games they won, Cerritos opened up a lead midway through, only to see the Owls make an attempt to come away with the win. The key game in the match was the third, which came on the heels of the second game that Citrus came away with after the teams were tied 13 times, including ever point from the 10th point to the 20th. In the third game, the Falcons fell behind 5-2, but scored seven of the next eight points to take a 9-6 lead. It was a balanced attack, with a pair of Citrus errors helping along the way....[more]

09.03.08 - Young team swept in first match
With a team comprised of all freshmen except one player, the Cerritos College volleyball team will be facing much more experienced teams throughout the season. In their first match of the year, the young Falcons fell victim to a taller, more experienced Orange Coast College team at home on Wednesday. The Pirates, who won the state championship in 2005 and 2006, defeated the Falcons by a score of 8-25, 5-25, 19-25. Cerritos (0-1) will now host Citrus College on Friday at 5:00 p.m...[more]

04.12.08 - Ex-Cerritos volleyball player passes away unexpectedly
When she was a volleyball player for Cerritos College, Kristy Pesanti was considered the consummate teammate. Whether it was being a go-to player on the court, or a trusted friend, Kristy was someone you walked away from feeling like you were around a special person. But on the morning of April 7, 2008, that special person was taken away from us. Just 29 years old, Kristy Pesanti passed away in her sleep and left countless people wondering why...[more]
