The Cerritos
College volleyball team closed out their home
schedule on Wednesday night with a 25-13, 25-15,
25-20 South Coast Conference win over Los Angeles
City College. The Falcons (9-12 overall, 6-6 SCC)
finish their season with two road matches, starting
next Wednesday at Pasadena City College and
concluding next Friday at Long Beach City College.
The team is currently in fifth place in the
conference standings.
The three-set win
provided the team to balance their offensive attack,
with five players accounting for the 27 kills on the
night, with freshman
Sarah
Naranjo (Santa Fe HS) leading
the way with nine kills and also paced the squad
with three service aces. With one more kill, Naranjo
will move into the school's top 25 single season
kills leader. In playing every game this year,
Naranjo has posted 256 kills.
Freshman
Britney
Otero (Long Beach Wilson HS)
added six kills, while the duo of freshman
Yawen Zhan
(China) and
Samantha
Mora (Los Altos HS) each
contributed five kills. As a team, the Falcons had
11 service aces, with Zhan, Mora and sophomore
Desiree Cortez (Elizabeth Learning
Center HS) each recording two each. Cortez also
directed the offense with 21 assists, while freshman
Angelica Sievers (St. Joseph HS)
