Through the first
two games of their South Coast Conference match at
Pasadena City College on Friday night, the Cerritos
College volleyball team was very close to holding a
2-0 lead, but were tied 1-1. in the final two games,
the Falcons struggled and dropped them, which
resulted in a 26-28, 25-17, 9-25, 13-25 setback to
the Lancers in their next to last match of the
season. Cerritos (9-13 overall, 6-7 SCC) will close
out the season with a 6:00 p.m. game at Long Beach
City College on Wednesday.
The team had a lot
of success at the net, as they recorded 13 blocks,
but still didn't have enough to string a series of
points together after the first two games. Pasadena
City used a strong back row to effectively turn back
the Falcons. Freshman
Yawen Zhan
(China) had a strong match with nine kills
(one error) and shared the team lead with four
blocks. Freshman
Samantha
Mora (Los Altos HS) added
seven kills and four digs, while the team's leading
hitter, freshman
Sarah
Naranjo (Santa Fe HS) was
limited to just five kills in three games. She also
tied for the team lead with four kills and had four
digs.
Sophomore setter
Desiree Cortez (Elizabeth Learning
Center HS) registered 28 assists and led the
team with six digs, while freshman
Cynthia Andrade (South Gate
HS) added seven kills and two blocks. Freshman
Angelica Sievers (St. Joseph HS)
posted five digs and two services aces, with
freshman
Britney
Otero (Long Beach Wilson HS)
finishing with three kills and two blocks.
