Playing one of the
closest matches possible, the Cerritos College
volleyball team extended Mt. San Antonio College to
five games before succumbing, 23-25, 26-24, 25-23,
15-25, 14-16. With the loss, the Falcons are now 3-7
overall and 0-1 in South Coast Conference action.
The team will look to even their conference mark on
Wednesday when they host East Los Angeles College at
6:00 p.m.
There were several
outstanding performances in the five-set loss, most
notably by freshman
Yawen Zhan
(China), who posted 10 blocks, while also
adding six kills. She was joined by freshman
Sarah
Naranjo (Santa Fe HS),
who contributed 11 kills and six digs, while
freshmen
Samantha
Mora (Los Altos HS) and
Angelica
Sievers (St. Joseph HS)
each led the team with 12 digs apiece.
Offensively,
freshman
Mary
Faleafine (Artesia HS)
posted 10 kills, while freshman
Britney
Otero (Long Beach Wilson HS)
added seven kills. As for sophomore setter
Desiree
Cortez (Elizabeth Learning Center
HS), she not only dished out 25 assists, she
also added four blocks and two digs. As a team, the
Falcons had 21 blocks in the match.
