After dropping the
first two sets to Los Angeles City College in a
South Coast Conference match on Friday night, the
Cerritos College volleyball team responded by
winning the next three set to pull out the victory.
The Falcons, who improved to 6-8 overall and 3-2 in
conference action, defeated the Cubs, 23-25, 24-26,
25-20, 25-17, 17-15. The team will now host Pasadena
City College at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday night.
Leading the way in
the comeback was freshman
Britney
Otero (Long Beach Wilson HS),
who recorded nine of her season-high 13 kills in the
three sets the Falcons won. Freshman
Sarah
Naranjo (Santa Fe HS) was
consistent all night and finished with a season-high
17 kills, with three of them coming in the deciding
game, while sophomore setter
Desiree
Cortez (Elizabeth Learning Center
HS) dished off a season-high 48 assists without
an error, while adding three service aces.

Yawen Zhan
(China) came through with three of her
season-high 13 kills in the fifth game, with
freshman
Cynthia
Andrade (South Gate HS) being
the fourth Cerritos player with double-digit kills,
as she chipped in with 11 on the night.
Freshmen
Samantha
Mora (Los Altos HS) and
Angelica Seivers (St. Joseph HS)
led the back row with seven digs and two services
aces apiece. Freshman
Bethany
Jones (Ridgeway, TN HS) was
strong at the net, as she finished with three
blocks.
