After extending
Mt. San Antonio College in the first game of their
South Coast Conference match, the Cerritos College
volleyball team found it more difficult to maintain
any kind of momentum and dropped a 25-27, 20-25,
9-25 contest at home on Wednesday night. The Falcon
(6-11 overall, 3-4 SCC) will now play the next three
matches on the road, starting with a 6:00 p.m.
contest at East Los Angeles College on Friday. In
their first meeting, Cerritos swept the Huskies in
three games.
Playing without
two of their regular starters, the Falcons were
lacking depth both at the net and in the back row,
as freshmen
Britney
Otero (Long Beach Wilson HS)
and
Kristen
Trillo (Santa Fe HS) missed
the match. Looking to make up for the absence of
both was freshman
Sarah
Naranjo (Santa Fe HS), who not
only led the team with nine kills, shared the team
lead in digs at eight with freshman defensive
specialist
Angelica
Seivers (St. Joseph HS).
Freshman
Mary
Faleafine (Artesia HS)
contributed six kills and seven digs, with freshman
Cynthia Andrade (South Gate HS)
contributing five kills. Freshman
Yawen Zhan
(China), who had been more successful at
the net lately, was limited to just one kill and two
blocks, while sophomore setter
Desiree
Cortez (Elizabeth Learning Center
HS) accounted for 16 assists and one kill.
