The Cerritos
College volleyball team registered a .321 hitting
percentage in their South Coast Conference match
against East Los Angeles College on Friday to propel
them to a 25-11, 25-13, 20-25, 25-7 win. With the
victory, the Falcons are now 7-11 overall and 4-5 in
conference action with five matches remaining.
Cerritos, playing four of them on the road, will
travel to Los Angeles Trade-Tech College on
Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. match.
The trio of
Mary Faleafine (Artesia HS),
Yawen Zhan (China) and
Samantha
Mora (Los Altos HS) combined
for 21 kills and just two errors in 36 attempts,
which set the tone for the match. Faleafine had nine
kills, while Mora (seven kills, six digs) and Zhan
(five kills, three blocks) all had good games, as
did freshman
Sarah
Naranjo (Santa Fe HS), who led the
team with 10 kills and contributed seven digs.
Also playing well
in the back row was freshman
Angelica
Seivers (St. Joseph HS), who
had seven digs, while freshman
Kristen
Trillo (Santa Fe HS) saw some
action as setter and recorded six assists. Sophomore
setter
Desiree
Cortez (Elizabeth Learning Center
HS) finished with 18 assists, but also added a
kill and block.
