Despite 10 kills
from freshman
Samantha
Mora (Los Altos HS) and nine
kills from freshman
Sarah
Naranjo (Santa Fe HS),
the Cerritos College volleyball team didn't have
enough firepower to handle College of the Canyons.
The Falcons (1-2) dropped a 12-25, 17-25, 26-24,
14-25 decision to the Cougars on Wednesday night.
The team will now host Ventura College at 6:00 p.m.
next Wednesday.
Naranjo came through with four of her kills
in the third game, won by the Falcons, while
freshman
Cynthia
Andrade (South Gate HS) did
her best to help the team try and squeeze out a win
in the second game. In that game, Andrade accounted
for four of her seven kills on the night, but the
team came up short, 17-25.
Freshman
Yawen
Zhan (China) posted
three blocks and added four kills, while setter
Desiree Cortez (Elizabeth Learning
Center HS) dished out 21 assists in the loss.
Defensively,
Naranjo led the team with 11 digs, with
freshman
Angelica
Sievers (St. Joseph HS)
finished with 10 digs. Freshman
Mary
Faleafine (Artesia HS)
chipped in with eight digs, while Cortez and Andrade
each had four.
