After their first
game in their non-conference match at Fullerton
College on Wednesday night, the Cerritos College
volleyball team seemed to be on their way to a solid
win. But the Falcons ran into trouble after that
against the Hornets and it resulted in a 25-22,
17-25, 17-25, 13-25 loss. Cerritos (3-6) will now
open South Coast Conference play next Friday in a
6:00 p.m. match at Mt. San Antonio College.
In that first
game, the Falcons looked to freshman
Sarah
Naranjo (Santa Fe HS), who
accounted for five kills, while the team made just
three hitting errors. Naranjo continued to excel in
the second game and added six more kills, but
Cerritos had trouble hitting past the taller Hornet
players.
Freshmen
Yawen Zhan
(China) and
Cynthia
Andrade (South Gate HS)
combined for five blocks, with Andrade and freshman
Samantha Mora (Los Altos HS)
each added seven kills. But Fullerton (5-2) kept
rallies alive with their back row and relied on 15
kills from Jade Esquivel.
Sophomore setter
Desiree Cortez (Elizabeth Learning
Center HS) dished out 25 assists and posted six
digs, with freshman
Kristen
Trillo (Santa Fe HS) leading
the way with 10 digs.
