With only three
regular season matches remaining, the Cerritos
College volleyball team is well aware of how
important each victory is, as they look to advance
to the Southern California Regional Playoffs. The
Falcons showed that determination on Friday night
when they swept visiting Los Angeles Harbor College,
25-5, 25-12, 25-14 to improve to 12-6 overall and
9-4 in South Coast Conference action. The team will
now travel to Pasadena City College for a
rare Monday match at 6:00 p.m. against the
conference-leading Lancers.
Freshman Chanelle Puou
(California HS) led the team with 11 kills,
but it was the play of freshman
Sarah
Rodriguez (Montebello HS) that
caught people's attention. In just two games,
Rodriguez registered nine kills in 13 attempts
without an error, while she was a perfect 6-for-6 on
kill attempts in the third game. She also
contributed 11 digs in the back row.
Sophomore setter
Monique Gayton (La Serna HS)
made good on eight of her 13 kill attempts to go
along with her 28 digs, while sophomore
Sarah Naranjo (Santa
Fe HS) added six kills and two blocks. At the
net, sophomore Yawen
Zhan (China) recorded four
blocks to go along with her nine kills, while
sophomore
Angelica Sievers (St. Joseph's HS)
led the back row with 14 digs.
