On the strength of
their 25-15, 25-21, 25-19 win at Los Angeles City
College on Wednesday night, the Cerritos College
volleyball team will now be gearing up for the start
of the Southern California Regional Playoffs. The
selection of playoff teams will be held on Saturday,
but in the latest state poll, the Falcons were
ranked #18. The first round of the playoffs will
take place November 24 against a opponent and site
to be determined.
In the win over
the Cubs, freshman
Christina Contreras (Santa Fe HS)
led the way with 13 kills in 18 attempts, which just
one error. In the second game, she was a perfect
7-for-7 in kills, while she also added three blocks
and three digs. Several other freshmen saw
additional action and responded in a favorable way
to the coaching staff, as Janae Miley
(Calvary Chapel HS) was successful on three
of her four kills in the first game, while freshman Kanesha
Hudson (Long Beach Jordan HS)
finished with six kills and just one error.
Freshman Chanelle Puou
(California HS) recorded 10 kills in two
games, while sophomore
Sarah Naranjo (Santa Fe HS)
had eight kills, seven digs and four service aces.
As for sophomore setter
Monique Gayton (La Serna HS),
she dished out 37 assists to go along with her three
kills, three services aces, four blocks and six
digs. Sophomore
Angelica Sievers
(St. Joseph's HS) led the team with nine
digs, while Krystel
Luna (Downey HS/Pasadena City
College) added six digs in the win.
